Barbican Love

if anyone wants to buy me a flat this is where i would like it to be. these two views from my friend's balcony. Of course, i realise, to the americans/canadians/anywhere vaguely modernians among you, you will wonder what the hell i am going on about, being as this probably looks pretty boring and normal to you.
the barbican is SPECIAL! has it's own concert halls, exhibition halls, cinema, library, and FALCONER!!! and was built in a massive bombsite after the war. it was so freakishly modern it even had a plughole waste disposal system which not only ground up potato peelings but also bottles and cans. if i lived there i would never leave. i would throw out my shoes and learn to rollerskate.

i want one of these, they are south facing and get all the sun. plus the ones at the top have a fancy window thing going on.

my view would be of this

so sugar daddies please apply. of course, you will get bugger all for your investment except to know that you will have made a simple soul VERY happy...

I see your point, the can-grinding waste dispostal sounds sweet! Plus, living at the Barbican and having an artistic soul, you will get really good at drawing perspective. Good luck with landing a sugar daddy.

i keep trying to persuade wendy to lure the pigeons onto her balcony so we can get the falconer in. maybe if he lives there i could just move in with him.

Wow, I've never been to or seen the Barbican before. I'm gonna go this year for sure. Thanks Elaine.

wow! i think that "if i lived there i would never leave" is about the best thing that could be said about one's residence.

good luck with that ;)

although if you did leave, it would be to go to cool places, it's right near st pauls cathedral, london wall, tate gallery, and not forgetting postman's park

jeeff: 12th Apr 2006 - 14:05 GMT

those are some pretty nice in photo #2.

elaine: 12th Apr 2006 - 14:10 GMT

yeah, absolutely. barbican has it all. i am even down for a tour of the innards of the waste disposal system!

Get out of your car, buddy: 12th Apr 2006 - 16:56 GMT

But does it have a Home Depot nearby? Or a Walmart? How about a rifle range? Tate gallery? You call that culture? What rubbish!

Joking aside, this looks like a lovely place. Lots of concrete, but the glass, brick and water soften it nicely.

Are the common spaces for residents only, or can anyone in the city enjoy them?

elaine: 12th Apr 2006 - 17:51 GMT

anybody can wander around and use the arts spaces and cut through, it's all cctv'd up and feels v safe. it was even originally planned to have mixed residencies, some provate ownership and some public housing all mixed up together, which was what, 20 years before it's time?
i believe there are still some council housing there, though i would imagine very little since the right to buy came in.
i like the idea of a rifle range, but that's probably just me...

I LOVE the Barbican, I just stumbled accross this when looking for property. I am begging my parents to get a flat there!
