Messing Up My Neighborhood Trees
[previous] :: [next]
Went for a bicycle ride today and was dismayed to find that a local driver's education school has decided to staple their flyers on the trees. This will be the second time I've found their posters on the trees and I will be calling their manager again to complain. If you are from Toronto, give them a call to complain at This article has been viewed 2397 times in the last 2 years
jeeff: 11th Apr 2006 - 18:02 GMTthe guy said he was employing a new posterer in that area and would tell him again to stop. EvilGentleman: 11th Apr 2006 - 19:03 GMTI like this avenue of civil conscientiousness. I hope we see more posts like this. S: 11th Apr 2006 - 21:43 GMTThis is a common problem in Toronto. Some people go to great lengths to advertise their company. I've also seen similar flyers "ducktaped" to the trees!. Just have a look at the TTC bus shelters. People will actually glue their advertising onto the glass!. I'm not sure about the new shelters, but I know the old ones used to have a sign saying that it was illegal to post advertising in these shelters. I think the max fine was $500.00. Even with that threat, people still posted their advertising in the shelter!. I often wondered why the TTC never had these outfits charged (think of all the money they could make!). From what I understand, it would cost the city too much money to take these people to court. Another thing that bugs me is these roofing signs that you see everywhere (similar in style to those election signs). I know that the city did take one of the companies to court over it. I think the company was only allowed a certain number of signs, but had gone over their limit. Nobody should be posting signs to a public tree. It just makes the area look run down. Michelle: 11th Apr 2006 - 21:54 GMTPrecisely my points! I really can't stand all the advertisements. It is really hard to find a bit of free public space that you can enjoy for its natural qualities. Everything has advertisements on it. Just like those monster garbage bins/advertising surfaces that are 7 ft. tall - can't even see over them and the city is making a profit for advertising consumerism on the very containers into which we throw out the fittings and wrappers of consumer society. GGP: 11th Apr 2006 - 22:00 GMT"the city is making a profit for advertising consumerism on the very containers into which we throw out the fittings and wrappers of consumer society." well put, Michelle! Grange: 12th Apr 2006 - 13:09 GMTAnd its bad advertising . I mean your are walking along ,, see the poster and think "hey they have to be good " its on a tree!geshhhhhhh Grange: 12th Apr 2006 - 13:11 GMTGGP , on behalf for all canadians , I say your welcome to come and stay . Michelle: 12th Apr 2006 - 15:06 GMTAgreed - GGP, we would be proud to have you join us here in T.O. Micah: 13th Apr 2006 - 21:32 GMTThen there's the lawn ads on sticks, like they put on front lawns during political campaigns. They stick them in the ground on medians and other public grassy spaces where they won't have to pay for advertising. It's ugly! And useless, for the reason stated by Grange above. 'Yeah, I should totally give them a call!' Ummm... or just rip the sign out of the lawn and throw it in the nearest dumpster. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
