Have You Ever Seen the Rain?
[previous] :: [next]These are from about an 1 1/2 hours ago. Taken from the Huck's in Chatham (town bordering Springfield on the south). We moved our vehicles to the carwash as the storm approached and nickel and dime sized hail was expected with a possible tornado, and we don't have a garage. They started activating the tornado sirens on our way up here. Several power poles and lines blew down west of town, but nothing major in this area luckily. So far there are reports of some trailers blown over northeast of the city and some heavy damage in a town about a half hour southeast of the city. The scanner was really buzzing for a while, still busy but less urgent. This all comes exactly three weeks after the two tornados ripped through the middle of Springfield.
Looking southwest. The traffic light at the intersection here was out and a few close calls followed. A couple minutes before a torrential downpour and heavy winds ensued.
Sangamon County Deputy headed west on Walnut as the sky darkens and the wind and rain really get going.
The flag blowing and barely visible above the Chatham Police Station (building with the round roof behind the house). It wasn't quite as dark as it looks, my camera had a little trouble, I guess it doesn't like water. It seems ok now though. In our county (Sangamon) alone we had six on Sunday evening. The only thing I remember hearing specifically on the scanner was one at Wabash & Veterans in Springfield, a very busy intersection, luckily it wasn't true. A lot of areas in Springfield are still cleaning up from the tornados three weeks ago. Looks like this is already becoming a busy tornado season, starting to catch up 2003 probably.
