"Bigges" West-Indian/American restaurant, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn... This article has been viewed 2541 times in the last 2 years Peter: 31st Mar 2006 - 17:11 GMTstrangely, i went in there looking for veggie patties (a new quest im on- to try all the veggie patties in the neighborhood, heh) and discovered that they had no food at all on hand, save for some bags of chips and a half-stocked cooler of soda. hmm... Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 31st Mar 2006 - 17:20 GMTI expect that if you handed over $50, you would have got a coke and some flamable vegetable matter. Peter: 31st Mar 2006 - 17:24 GMTahh, i used to live down the block from a place like that... home of the $25 "diet green-apple snapple" (a flavor which, of course, doesnt actually exist, but does a great job of indicating what you really intend to purchase). GGP: 31st Mar 2006 - 17:33 GMTwho has the best vegetable patties in the neighborhood, peter? inquiring minds want to know. Peter: 31st Mar 2006 - 17:41 GMTso far, hands down, its "ashleys", the little hole-in-the-wall with the bright orange facade and the plastic chairs out front sitting in the wedge-shaped storefront at/near the intersection of sterling and flatbush, just up flatbush (towards grand army plaza) from "natural land", the crunch (nee park slope fitness) gym, and right next to the furnuture place. you know where im talking about? SO GOOD. opt for the coco bread, too. sure, its a carb-overload, but hot damn... once, i took some home on a whim, and next thing i know, my wife calls me at work 2-3 days a week to have me bring some home! theyre the perfect blend of spicy and toothy. not gooey, not too flakey. damn... now im hungry for one. also: im not a meat-eater, but my wife tells me that their whitefish dumplings are superlative... theyre like fist-size hushpuppies stuffed with jerk-seasoned cod. i know they do a booming business in steamed fish and meatloaf, too... and it all smells so good... as opposed to "la grand castillo jagua", but thats another story for another day ;) Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
