Elicar: I love lighthouses!

GGP: 31st Mar 2006 - 16:38 GMT

"My heart is the shyest object in the world. It has numerous qualities carelessly mixed together and insectlike roots that can perceive the entire universe in an instant. It blushes when it dies and becomes a monster when it loves....It becomes a periscope each spring. It would like to be a lighthouse instead of being in my chest...." Frank Lima, "My Heart"

I taught this poem in my creative writing class last week and it engendered a lengthy and enthusiastic discussion of the pleasure, aesthetic and emotional, of lighthouses.

This is a nice, humble example of same--a soothing yet exhilerating sight.
