The Looongest Street in the World
[previous] :: [next]Yonge Street, March 30, 2006, 5:30 PM It's a good day to walk. The weather was lovely, so I did. I started at Front Street. The destination was Bloor Street where I would catch my train to take me home. That should take me 25-30 minutes to walk in my sensible, but definitely not a pair o walking shoes. 33 Yonge Street
That's the BCE Place (again?) reflected. The Red Rocket at King Street
Hongkong Shanghai Bank of Canada at Adelaide Street
Canada Trust, right across
Nearly got run over by a streetcar at Queen Street. Not really, but the picture was out of focus as I was in a hurry.
This is for sale right across the Eaton Centre. Any takers? My bank balance is a few zeroes defficient.
Dundas Street Square
I was distracted by the The Chalkmaster Sam the Record Man
It was nice but isn't it too soon for flip flops?
A gaudy ad
Yonge Street Sign at College. Check out Tim Horton's and Starbucks.
That's where I got really distracted and bought myself a brand new baby blue spring coat.
The same sign when I was through shopping. Dang, where did the time go?
That leaves me no time to go to this store....
I don't think I'll make it to Bloor. I am getting hungry. It's not that far, but..
To the left is Freeman, same as this Forget Bloor, I'll catch the train at Wellesley. I am not sure it is a good idea, however as there is a crane on top of the station.
Aww...don't be a wimp. Besides, you promised Peter, you'll take more pictures of the subway. Peter can wait. Now, I gotta go and eat. Da end of a very long story as long as Yonge itself. This article has been viewed 3723 times in the last 2 years Elicar: 31st Mar 2006 - 02:25 GMTI must really be hungry, I ntended to include this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonge_Street EvilGentleman: 31st Mar 2006 - 04:17 GMTI have always heard that Yonge Street is the world's longest street, but when I was in North Bay in December, it was not called Yonge Street there, although Hwy 11 is supposed to be Yonge. I wonder why that is? jeeff: 31st Mar 2006 - 04:33 GMTstreet names are a the domain of the city. once you're outside municipal boundaries the provincial govt has a different naming scheme. Elicar: 31st Mar 2006 - 04:33 GMT"Over the years, Highway 11 grew to stretch from downtown Toronto all the way to the Minnesota border. Highway 11 became synonymous with Yonge Street, the name of the street in Toronto which formed its southernmost segment. It is from this that Yonge Street gained (somewhat controversially) notoriety as the 'longest street in the world'." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_Provincial_Highway_11 Tyfoid Kid: 31st Mar 2006 - 15:38 GMTSo the next time I'm "Up North" by Rainy River I can just hop on the road across the border and boom I'm in Toronto?? Cool!! Eh maybe I'll just get to it via Duluth and Thunder Bay. Elicar: 11th Apr 2006 - 00:39 GMT
This is the map of Yonge Street at Dundas Square. That's my walking buddy smiling at the camera to mark the end. Comment on this article[previous] :: [next] |
