Chicken Run

- kc - Saturday, March 25th, 2006 : goo

A sidewalk drama in Harlem. I was with a walking tour, and we encountered a woman who was trying to rescue a rooster--she'd discovered it wandering the sidewalk and had discovered she could attract its attention and lead it by dangling a shiny CD in front of it. She said she'd been calling anyone--ASPCA, NYPD, 911--for an hour.

Snappy feet.

The cops finally showed up--to applause! What happened next? I have no idea.

I liked the birdy name of the shop next door.

why did the chicken cross the road? to get to the beauty nest, evidently. perhaps his ladyfriends were in there getting their feathers plumed?

Great sidewalk drama. Unexpected things things happen in NYC. I love it.
(and now I want a pet chicken).

very good grange. but i think that is a fighting rooster. see the leg positioned to kick the lady.
also, did i ever tell you guys about the time my brother and i got two chicks for Easter back in the late 40's and we kept them in my grandfathers wine celler and we watched them grow. we called them bert and harry and bert had a leg that was a little bent but they made such a mess and gramps was always muttering under his breath some foul words that we did'nt understand and eventually one saturday we went down to play with them and they were gone and we looked and looked but no bert and harry. GONE! gramps told us that they met these two lovely chicks and they went off to start a family and so we were sad but happy for them. until dinner on sunday. we always had chicken and i wondered why gramps did not take me to the chicken butcher to get fresh chickens. he always let me pick a couple out to be killed. and i would walk home with him with the chickens head dangling out of the newspaper that wraped them up in. so after the macaroni and sausage and meatballs we had the chicken. it was the third course of the sunday dinner and i noticed something strange and scary. the chicken's leg was bent. in horror i gasped in disbelief. what! bert! oh no! they cooked bert! without even mentioning that fact that they killed him, oh no my bert. i immediately made my sentiments known OUTLOUD and i refused to eat him. so instead i ate the roast beef and veal cutlets with salad and a delicious extra virgin olive oil dressing with garlic and salt and i still morn for bert.

Everybody knows that the beauty nest is just a front for the best Cock fights in the city.

grange: 25th Mar 2006 - 21:35 GMT

Sorry all my chicken come in plastic wrap ... i thought the grew them that way , like a ship in a bottle kind of thing

kc: 26th Mar 2006 - 03:36 GMT

fowl words from gramps, indeed. The Beauty Nest, a/k/a the Cock's Comb. For some reason that karate kid picture looks like...it should be a move like "the crane." Do roosters actually fight with their feet?
