at least they didnt do a half-assed job with the ... *snicker*

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 21st Mar 2006 - 14:27 GMT

The revolution is coming. Set it off. Light up the skies...oh wait, it's been buffed.

elaine: yeah, it's like "blah blah blah - class war"

jeeff: elaine - that's an inspiring slogan.

elaine: i could work in advertising, couldn't i?

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 22nd Mar 2006 - 18:23 GMT

I work in advertising. Shall I work it into the ad I'm writing today?

elaine: 22nd Mar 2006 - 18:26 GMT

ooh! please! i would love that.

when i was at school it was a point of pride to write "paralytic against the (insert thing) s/he lay" in every essay, relevant or not, because my friend frances got a special star/tick/mark for it once.

and i often put things in to writing or art just for myself...

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 22nd Mar 2006 - 18:46 GMT

When we present concepts to clients they often have fake copy (which is usually Latin 'Loreum ipsum' and the like). When I was an art director, I always liked to hide the word 'quim' in my fake copy. It tickled me to make presentations to a room full of very important people with quim right in their faces (so to speak). Alas, these days I am a writer and never get my hands on the layouts. Plus, I'd rather not get fired. Though it would be a memorable way to go.

makes me think of la perruque www.dci.pomona.edu/~kfitzpatrick/marxwiki/index.php/La_perruque

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 22nd Mar 2006 - 19:11 GMT

My God, that's it exactly. My Marxist tendancies make me subvert my capitalistic job with other creative avenues.

elaine: it's a hoot, isn't it. i love all that.

Peter: 22nd Mar 2006 - 19:26 GMT

this very website is a perfect example of la perruque at work ;)

elaine: zactly that. it's the way forward. wig out!

jeeff: 23rd Mar 2006 - 02:06 GMT

here are the lyrics to a topical song:

'take stuff from work'
by king missile (lyrics, john s. hall)

take stuff from work.
it's the best way to feel better about your job.
never buy pens or pencils or paper.
take 'em from work.
rubber bands, paper clips, memo pads, folders-take 'em from work.
it's the best way to feel better about your low pay and appalling working conditions.
take an ashtray-they got plenty.
take coat hangers.
take a, take a trash can.
why buy a file cabinet?
why buy a phone?
why buy a personal computer or word processor?
take 'em from work.
i took a whole desk from the last place i worked.
they never noticed and it looks great in my apartment.
take an electric pencil sharpener.
take a case of white-out; you might need it one day.
take some from work
it's your duty as an oppressed worker to steal from your exploiters.
it's gonna be an outstanding day.
take stuff from work.
and goof off on the company time.
i wrote this at work.
they're paying me to write about stuff i steal from them.
life is good.

elaine: 23rd Mar 2006 - 07:59 GMT

heh. king missile. so many good lyrics. i think i like the one about jesus best.

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 23rd Mar 2006 - 14:46 GMT

I actually bring pens to work. But I am working on a master plan to steal my Aeron chair. I'm thinking of taking it apart and mailing it to myself. Or waiting until Halloween, throwing a sheet over it and pretending it's a fat kid trick or treating.
My favorite King Missile song is Detatchable Penis.

elaine: 23rd Mar 2006 - 16:17 GMT

my feeling is that if you mailed ME your aeron chair you would get bought another, newer one which you could then steal for yourself. expecially if you ordered two by mistake.

Peter: ...or three ;)

Micah: 23rd Mar 2006 - 16:27 GMT

I can't get on the internet at work so I somewhat surreptitiously do things like this during my language lab instead (where I am right now). That way it's not a #complete# waste of an hour...

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 23rd Mar 2006 - 16:30 GMT

They are damn good chairs. In fact, even a 10 year old Aeron retains 70% of it's retail value.

elaine: i WANT one
