The Other Boston

Boston. Where the pilgrims come from. It's Pilgrim this Pilgrim that, much in the same way as everything in is prefixed by "Robin Hood". The local minor-league football team here is called the pilgrims too.

Robin Hood airport however is in Doncaster, i think this is to confuse the foreigners.

Boston is a town and small port in Lincolnshire.

It received its charter in 1545. It is the main town in the borough of Boston. Its primary landmark is The Stump, the parish church with the highest tower in England, visible in the flat lands of Lincolnshire for miles. Residents of Boston are known as "Bostonians".

image 9731

On a clear day the stump can be seen from as far away as from across the sea.

The main shopping areas of the town centre are much like anywhere else in the UK, but nip down an alley and you find that Boston is a maze of alleyways and tiny backstreets.

I don't know what this Egyptian styled building is, though it has a blue plaque on it which no doubt means it's of some historical importance, but i noticed this only after taking the photo. Also, i've never noticed this building before.

'espirit' de boston.
do the pilgrims make progress?
that church spire is nice, i like the holes, a bit like st giles in edinburgh

Jamie: 20th Mar 2006 - 15:57 GMT

and if you go inside it (i have been inside it) you can climb the stairs, though maybe you can't now cause someone jumped. But more importantly there is a matchstick model of the church inside.

! hahaha.

also: jamie, this "the other..." series is tops. you could do a book on this, aith all the other cities, im sure. thanks a ton for these photos. i know you see places like this and they seem like no big deal as you see them every day, but i look at these photos and am fascinated... it looks so different to me... america has nothing at all that looks like this.

as a matter of fact, i just showed sine this link, via chat, and she said:

[10:06] *sine* see? isn't england ADORABLE?

Hey, jeeff started it: The Other London
glad you liked em, been meaning to do these since time began, but like you say, they're the everyday things that blur into insignificance. If there's one thing this place teaches you it's how to see things with fresh eyes, that's for sure.

Peter: 20th Mar 2006 - 16:28 GMT

oh yeah! props to . i totally forgot about that entry. nice. i smell a series here...

Jamie: 20th Mar 2006 - 16:29 GMT

Peter: 20th Mar 2006 - 16:36 GMT

Jamie: 20th Mar 2006 - 16:40 GMT

Wouldn't it be cool to do a roadtrip where those were the only places you could stop.

Peter: 20th Mar 2006 - 16:44 GMT

no doubt! hahahaha. ahh, to have the unlimited time and funds. i swear, if i did, thats all i would do... go on crazy roadtrips like that.

Jamie: 20th Mar 2006 - 17:34 GMT

Elicar: 20th Mar 2006 - 22:44 GMT
