is that a cocktail glass with a stirrer above it. could this place have been a cocktail lounge. i think this is where matt helms dropped in for a singapore sling. or phillip marlowe with a staight up and a side car. ah, i remember when i came home from the army and my friends were still doing their same things they did when i left and late at night when i was out on my own i would go to the local tavern and sit down and have a scotch on the rocks. i could'nt relate to my old friends from high school any more and i felt out of it. they did'nt interest ne anymore and i had nothing in common with them, so the evenings saw me alone in a bar with a drink thinking about my buddies in nam and i was'nt with them. i was safe at home, alone.

As far as new goes, I suspect the residents of the London neighbourhood of Newham, or the people of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England may perhaps beg to differ. They have medieval things over there that are called "new". I do not know if there is an area of Damascus called "New Damascus", but if there is, it could well be older than the Pyramids of Giza.
