Bimbo Daycare

- EvilGentleman - Friday, March 3rd, 2006 : goo

I went to my wife's work and saw this for sale on the reception desk, apparently on behalf of one of the children of a coworker. The charity in question is the BIMBO Daycare. I can only assume that the word bimbo has a different meaning in French. I looked it up and discovered there is a second daycare of the same name in Bathurst, New Bruswick. Bathurst is also in the French end of New Brunswick, so it must have something in particular to do with the French. But no way will I send a kid to a daycare with THAT name. What would be next, a stint at Skank Elementary?

By the way, the chocolate was good, I must admit.

i went out with a girl who graduated from bimbo university. she majored in mini skirts. she took classes on like how to wear spikes while working as a crossing guard. i met her on 8th ave and 42nd street. i think she was lost because i saw her asking a lot of men as they passed her for directions. i helped her to her hotel. their alma mater song was called, 'in a bimbo state of mind', and it went to the tune of, 'in a new york state of mind'. they had proms three times a year due to the fact that it took on average 8 years to graduate and every student was on a different program. also they enjoyed proms. the prom was held at the navy piers at the same time as the fleet would pull in. i think it was a coincidence. but the sailors liked it and they all remember with fondness the bimbo state of mind. some of the sailors even got to take remembrences of the bimbos when they left port. sick call got to be known as the 'bimbo itch'. from the bimbo *itch. so do you think some of these girls came from skank elementary?

EvilGentleman: 3rd Mar 2006 - 20:55 GMT

jack, you randy old fart, may you live forever! LMAO!! Your naively innocent version of your perspective (or your tongue-in-cheek imitation thereof) reminds me so much of the storyline of the Kinks' song Lola.

EvilGentleman: 4th Mar 2006 - 00:01 GMT

I found out the Bimbo Daycare's location. It is located at 4785 Boul. Henri-Bourassa Ouest in the St-Laurent Borough of Montreal. I went over there this evening to take a picture for you to see, but unfortunately, there was no signage, as they had recently moved. I will try to pass by there at least once a month until I get a photo of a sign.

Jack, I believe a lot of the ladies who graduated from Bimbo U were able to distinguish themselves in ways above and beyond the norm. I heard one of the best profs there was Phil Laishio, and to to this day, they still practice the arts learned there. And since so many of these ladies specialised in human relations and communication skills, Bimbo U's languages department produced an unusually high number of cunning linguists. Their law department was also one of note. Oddly, I do not recall them graduating any barristers, but they produced a great many solicitors. I would have to state that Bimbo U provides one of the best all-around educations there is, and they definitely have been all-around. Efficiency was always a focus, as they were able to combine business, anatomy, gymnastics and wrestling into a single class. I wonder how many daughters will attend Bimbo U this year? I really should make an attempt to go to their graduation this year. After they have all passed their examinations, of course. ;-)

jack: 5th Mar 2006 - 05:18 GMT

they take exams every six months. they have the best doctors available. i knew a girl from there, big red. her hair was in a beehive going up about two feet high. she was called big red because she was big, and her eyes were red. she wanted to make out with me in chemistry class. she wanted to light up my bunson burner. im not kidding, she was a rough girl. wore a garrison belt around her skin tight skirt. every time the teacher turned around to write something on the blackboard the animals would throw pennies onto his desk and this kid arthur would jump up and down trying to get the pennies. our dean of boys was a dashing man who really liked boys. ahem! the "students" just killed a teacher there last year. yes, lafayette high school one of the worst high schools in brooklyn. most of the girls attended bimbo u.

Nancy D'Elia: 13th Jan 2007 - 02:49 GMT

Hey! That's my daycare you're making fun of. Goes to show your affinity for "bimboism". Bimbo means infant in Italian. Don't you have anything better to do with your time.

EvilGentleman: 16th Jan 2007 - 14:57 GMT

Sorry for the insult, Nancy. But you know, living in a multilingual, multicultural city such as Montreal, it helps to keep translations in mind when naming your business.

Peter: hehehehe...

jack: 16th Jan 2007 - 16:38 GMT

my goodness you folks are still posting and chatting after almost one year about a topic that was in jest and then became an insult to our business day time activity, and what next may i ask you, where are we going with this and probably because i posted now no one will talk to me about whatever, so to nancy, the beautiful girl with a lovely italian last name if you think for one moment that i will call my beautiful, new grandaughter, with the most beautiful little italian face and blue eyes and pouting lips that squeeze my heart and makes my pulse pound harder, that i will call her, 'bimbo', no way i call her 'bella mia' as i gaze into her eyes and melt like a silly old soldier who now has 2 grandsons and bella mia.

EvilGentleman: 17th Jan 2007 - 15:09 GMT

Belissamo, Giovanni. I tip my hat to you and your Bella Mia.

Nancy D'Elia: 1st Feb 2007 - 04:35 GMT

Of course you would not call her bimbo - you would call her bimba - the feminine ending for the noun. Sheesh! You really don't know nutnin!!!
If one should say of her "ma che bella bimba!!" it would indeed be flattering and so sonorous as the Italian language always is.

EvilGentleman: 1st Feb 2007 - 15:28 GMT

Good grief. Admit it, Nancy. You messed up when you named your daycare. As sweet and innocent as the name may be in Italian, you cannot possibly tell me that 100% of your clientele speak only Italian. After all, YOU seem to understand English well enough. I think it is just common sense to take the official languages of the environment into account when naming a business, since you will obviously have speakers of those languages dealing with you on a regular basis. I notice that since the word "phoque" (seal) in French is pronounced very similarly to the English word "fuck", there are few, if any, businesses in the Montreal area using the word "phoque" in its name. This is despite the legal dominance of French in Quebec.

Nancy D'Elia: 21st Feb 2007 - 03:14 GMT

Good grief indeed, Mr. Wilson. How would you explain all the business names of restaurants in New York or in Montreal for that matter that have Italian names in them?I realized that some people might infer other things in the word bimbo but I liked the poetry and the flair it has. But I understand that it can be wasted on certain uncouth beings. Who took that picture and how did they get into the kitchen of my other daycare?

EvilGentleman: 21st Feb 2007 - 14:20 GMT

I bought the chocolate at my wife's office on Cavendish, and thus helped in a small part to fund you. (Actually, I bought two, cuz they were gooooood.) The table is in the kitchen of my apartment in Dorval.
I can understand the love of a flair with words, as I have several phrases close to my heart as well. As far as the translation issue goes, well everything has its pros and cons, and we all make our choices. You obviously have a lot of pride in your business, and that is good. I wish you the best of luck. Thank you for educating us. As for mself, as an english speaker, I will still have to fight to repress a snicker when I see the name of your business, but now at least I can understand why the name exists.

Nowheretobeseen: 22nd Feb 2007 - 23:30 GMT

When i first found out that Bimbo meant something else in italian i was quite amused. Its funny how different the meaning between english and italian bimbo are.

EvilGentleman: 23rd Feb 2007 - 17:40 GMT

Actually I could easily imagine a European mistakenly saying "a daycare for babes", which would be pretty equivalent to the above scenario. I guess we English speakers are very perverted people. I, for one, am very proud of that, LOL.

Nancy D'Elia: 9th Mar 2007 - 11:01 GMT

I hate to have to be the one to tell you that despite your belittling me and my business name you do have affinities with my discernment of the finer things in life - such as chocolate-covered roasted almonds and ceramic-top kitchen tables. I bought two identical to the one in the picture: one for each of my two daycares. So voila! Maybe had you been pushed to the limits you might have even conceded to keeping the name Bimbo for your already existing business.

EvilGentleman: 9th Mar 2007 - 11:13 GMT

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy. I was not attempting to belittle you in any way, I just happened to find the name to be extremely funny, due to the very different meaning of the word "bimbo" in English. Terribly sorry if you are offended, but these things are bound to happen, in much the same way that many English speakers found the name of the Catholic Cardinal of the Philippines to be funny. I realize that in Tagalog, it means something entirely different, but "Cardinal Sin" still sounds funny to those who speak and understand English. Just be thankful George Carlin did not find this page, God only knows what he would have been able to do with it.

And yes, the chocolates were good. Please order more again, I will buy some.

EvilGentleman: 9th Mar 2007 - 11:20 GMT

And of course, you do realize that the more we debate, the more hits this page generates. I hope you are okay with that, or shall we just stop?

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2007 - 00:58 GMT

I'm trying to slowly add Google Maps links to all my articles, where it seems appropriate. In the interests of not fanning the flames of debate once again, I will opt to not do so with this article. Well, maybe just a shot of Ville Saint-Laurent, that should be innocent enough.

Manuel Berlanga: 24th Aug 2007 - 00:12 GMT

Bimbo means child, not infant, right? Infante means infant... but still, giving the predominance of English/French, it is still a bad name for a Canadian Business!

EvilGentleman: 26th Aug 2007 - 07:47 GMT

Wow! Kinda makes you wonder how such a common Italian word wound up being used in English the way it currently is. We English-speakers are weirrrrd people, I guess.

Nancy D'Elia: 5th Dec 2007 - 03:58 GMT

Hah! There you see! There are others who think that this is a good name for a business. How are you doing, Evil person? Long time no hear. I will be changing the sign on my daycare and will be confidently plastering that name for all to see. Look for it !!

EvilGentleman: 6th Dec 2007 - 21:44 GMT

Hey, no problem from my end. You can name your business whatever you like, and based on how vociferously you defend it, the kids there are probably well taken care of.

I will still snicker a bit, but that is due to my seeing the English translation rather than the intended Italian name. This probably stems from my thinking in English, not Italian.

Only in Montreal can such silly arguments pop up, but what amazes me here is that for once, it had nothing to do with the French language.

Good luck, Nancy. And smile. Yes, you got teased, but maybe you also got a lot of free advertising, so hopefully it balances out in the end.

Now if you will excuse me, I am off for a vacation in the lovely village of Fucking, Austria. I hear Fucking is really nice in the winter.

Hmmm, I wonder if they have a daycare? Now THAT would be a picture to make people giggle.

And then there are places like Slut (in Sweden), Condom (in France), or Gay (in West Virginia).

Heck with it, check this out. Maybe it can even make you laugh, Nancy ;-)

YOU PPL...BIMBO IS ITALIAN FOR CHILD,PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.

EvilGentleman: 25th Feb 2008 - 10:17 GMT

Laura, did you actually bother to read all the comments on this page? I think we established the fact that bimbo refers to a small child over a year ago. And please, no shouting in CAPS, it's too loud for my eyes.
