there used to be a mc anns bar and restaurant near there. greatest fresh ham sandwiches on the face of the earth. im really touched that you would take a pic of a restaurant that was named after me. ok, everybody the drinks are on the house. lets hoist a few to the kids of citynoise. there used to be a gypsy joint down that block in the 60's and a women would take a guy into a cloak room and pull a curtain around them and she would touch and caress you all over while behind you there was a hole in the wall and a little hand would come thru and try to lift your wallet. if they got your wallet you were out of luck. i always put my wallet in my shirt pocket. especially for the train theives. a girl would move up against you and while you were letting your mind go wild her accomplice would do the bump and bingo you lost it. those are my memories of that area. but thx i'll try to make it there the next time i'm in the city.

by the way, i went to the manhattan high school of printing on 48th street and 10th avenue. now that was a wild area. its called hells kitchen.

i used to live in . its still wild, though its getting amazingly expensive there for what it is as it begins gentrifying. i moved out when they tried to raise the rent on my fleabag 5-floor walkup apartment to $2,100/month. my downstairs neighbor, who was born in his apartment in 1950, pays $78/month for the same size place. ahh, rent-control!

do you remember the old garden on 48th st. and 8th ave. the fights outside were better that the fights inside. i used to eat at the old french hospital up the street on 48th. you could get a great meal for $1.25. and bickfords on the corner of 48th and 8th. when it closed it became an xxx porn place. but guiliani cleaned up the area. thx to rudy a great mayor.
