an impossible child: 20th Feb 2006 - 17:45 GMTBZZZP thats interesting, never been to ny but interesting... guess there is a similar magic to all cities at night... or all cities on rivers at night jeeff: is that a bad thing or a good thing? :S x jeeff: 20th Feb 2006 - 20:15 GMTdepends on your opinion i guess. personally i'm not a fan of indiscriminate filters. everyone with a digital camera seems to think that if a photo won't stand by itself, just hit a few magical filter buttons and you have "art". i use photoshop and other digital techniques extensively for both art and work, so i'm not against digital artwork at all. just the idea that filters somehow spruce up a photo. i'm curious - why did you decide to use this filter here? an impossible child: 21st Feb 2006 - 10:17 GMTi was playing around, experimenting, as i wanted t see what would happen when some colour was taken/burnt out of the image (i didn't have a bw film on me at the time) - for a while now i've been working on this project, call it psychogeographical if you like, using photography, text and some sound - this photograph is one of the many 'things' which happened... um, i don't seem to be terribly good at explaining :) elaine: 21st Feb 2006 - 10:25 GMTi think when a single frame is offered and it has been 'photoshopped' it is quite hard to say if it was random and just the seduction of the technology. if you are doing a 'body of work' it will be taken more seriously. see if you can bring us something visual/visual & textual that shows what you are doing? an impossible child: 21st Feb 2006 - 18:28 GMTelaine - yeah i understand what you're saying... hang on... i'm gonna post some of the stuff id done this summer... jeeff: 25th Feb 2006 - 21:33 GMTi like a lot of dave mckean stuff too. he's an inspiration for a lot of people who are interested in digital photomanipulation. i use photoshop filters in my work too, but i always try to layer them or arrange them so as to create a more subtle effect. the problem with a lot of filters is that essentially they're math equations. when used in broad strokes you can see the math in the image - they depersonalize it.
