Thanks for the tour of Staten Island. I like the pictures, of course, but I'm totally charmed by the postcard.

adam: staten island sucks.

jethro: 26th Jan 2006 - 04:21 GMT

jack: 26th Jan 2006 - 05:13 GMT

jack: 26th Jan 2006 - 05:16 GMT

on the top of todt hill there was a ladder leaning up against a pole. a 40' ladder, so i climbed up the ladder and jumped as high as i could from the ladder, i reckon another 10' so i was the highest flying person on this side of the eastern seaboard. of course i could have gotten just as high by riding my three wheeler in the bike club.

Having lived on Staten Island for 21 years, lately it has become a crowded cesspool with bad drivers, guidos, and wiggers.

Cella Di Leo: Long live the guido's!!!

Peter: long live the misused apostrophe!

I was flying into LGA and noticed there are a lot of swimming pools in Staten Isle. If any of you happen to have one and want to let me swim there this summer, please let me know.

The north side of SI is made up of lower income people. like me, i'm latin. But the south shore of SI is where all the rich kids live wit their dadies buying them thier escalades while they listen to rap but still hate minorities.

Hmmm missing some pictures: 10th Oct 2006 - 18:07 GMT

Didn't see any pictures of the sand lane amusement park which closed around 2004 or the sand lane arcade which closed around 2005.

The aerial view of the harbor is nice, but you have the islands wrong. Swinburne is south of Hoffman, which is just off South Beach and close to the bridge. I spent months on Hoffman during WW2.

I moved to from , and almost two years later I'm still suffering from culture shock. We live in Prince's Bay, one of the "most desireable" neighborhoods. It's quiet and safe but BORING. I have honestly tried to love it here, but I can't. It's a cultural wasteland. The lack of public transportation to and from the city at night has an isolating factor. There is no community feel, no discernible nightlife, nothing. Plus, the inhabitants here all seem to be guidos from the 80's. We're moving to - I refuse to raise kids here.

its me: 2nd Feb 2008 - 05:02 GMT

yeah Hoboken is where i would want raise my kids...lol you have to be kidding. Staten Island is a great place to raise kids, LOW crime and good schools. do Staten Islanders a favor and move back to Brooklyn.

aquagirl: 30th Mar 2008 - 19:55 GMT

Can someone send me links to pics of hoffman island?

I've lived here sine 1956. You could still hunt on SI. up until 1970. There used to be farms, animals, airports, drive-in movies, etc. NYC is making S.I. unliveable with ridiculous taxes, fees, permits, licenses. Soon, it'll be a great place to be from. It's a shame. Still some nice things to do here if you can keep one step ahead of the gun-toting fine-writing civil servants, whose only concern is funding their pensions. God bless America.

lianna: 3rd Sep 2008 - 05:14 GMT

I hate people who complain about staten island. if you hate it so much than do something about it! there are plenty of people here[including myself] who do not perpetuate the staten island stereotypes. you should check out sicolab.org and you'll see that there are people here who love art, theater, and great cuisine!

lianna: 3rd Sep 2008 - 05:16 GMT

The north side is not only for "low-income people".. there are plenty of middle/working class people in west brighton, mariners harbor, etc. who own homes and have good jobs.
