Images of snow and ice taken on December 31, 2005. The first couple of shots from up on the hill.

The remainder of the shots were taken by a little stream downhill, where icicles hung from low-lying branches and were burnished into bell shaped by the constant motion of the relatively warm water. I was quite taken with the many formations I encountered during my wanderings downstream.

Laura : marvelous

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 11th Jan 2006 - 00:09 GMT

These are astoundingly beautiful.

jethro: where do you live?, the garden of eden

Jamie: 11th Jan 2006 - 14:22 GMT

amazing. i don't think i've ever seen anything like this in real life

jack: mother nature is quite the winter ice sculptress.

elaine: 11th Jan 2006 - 19:16 GMT

i love this, but i have nothing clever to say (i hate that)

It says "This article has been viewed 263 times in the last 6 weeks"
With shots this breathtaking, it really makes me wonder what the hell some people are thinking when they browse this site. The fact that this post can get an average of 44 views per week, while my post about an empty hospital waiting room gets 285 hits in 2 weeks is nothing short of a crime. These are professional-level shots that deserve far more attention. (sigh) but then again, American Idol gets far higher ratings than Pilot Guides (formerly Lonely Planet), despite being a far inferior show. I guess I have to accept the reality that western society is generally tasteless. I am thankful for those here who know beauty when they see it, no matter what its form.

There is no accounting for taste Evil. I never thought thay my Raccoons, Cute or Dangerous? and Dirty Windows would land in the top 10 articles for this month, especially the Dirty Windows.

At any rate, thank you for your comment as it made me take a look at these photos. They are just plain gorgeous!

GPP, I will go and check all your articles right now!

EvilGentleman: 25th Feb 2006 - 09:43 GMT

LOL, maybe people thought Dirty Windows was a pornographic Microsoft product...

meh - i am resigned. some for the gallery, some for the hardcore, whatever. every communication meets it's ear, i hope. i have not trawled through my postings but my plus populaire have to be sixy trolls (because of the name) and the burned out car.
i started posting the local graf purely for the cn locals pleasures, and the car was for peter, but neither have anything to do with 'me' really... but meanwhile, back at the ranch, things take off in an internal 'postal art' kind of a way in the threads, that's been good, robot building, and empty reference repeat, frinstance.
but a lot of my things are strikingly unpopular like let it out, keep it in but i can't really complain, they aren't really mass media images. thing of it is, peeps, if you put these stuffs in a gallery you would be pretty pleased with these numbers. and of course, lastly and not leastly, numbers are not everything. they might not be anything.

I so appreciate the kind words here--for me, it has been such a dream come true to have a place to share the sights that delight me with other people (a worldwide crew, no less) and to be able to engage in the kinds of conversations this site promotes...and then triple-scoops-of-joy to discover the amazing work that all of you are doing (igloos! train derailments! robot buildings! news of demolisions a block from my house of which I was unaware! the amazements never cease)--citynoise has been a revelation and the fact that ANYONE is seeing my snapshots feels like a gift. (I had a funny dream the other night, actually, where I saw something good and didn't have my camera and said, "Oh no! I wanted to get a shot of that for citynoise!")

elaine: hahaha - fab!

jeeff: 25th Feb 2006 - 19:50 GMT

it's hard to judge what will prove popular on citynoise because often the comments for a given article become as much a draw as the original article itself (photos, writing, whatever). i think that collaborative effort to add value is an important part of this site.

jamie: 25th Feb 2006 - 21:48 GMT

thank god i'm not the only one who dreams about this website

Elicar: 26th Feb 2006 - 01:04 GMT

Discovering Citynoise made me more aware of my surroundings. I was crossing Front on Yonge going north yesterday afterwork when I noticed this slim and extremely tall building. I said to myself, "Where did that come from?" I thought it was the condo development right accross the . I was so tired that the thought was fleeting and I forgot all about it until I met with my friend at Yonge and Adelaide and asked him what that building was, at the same time looking towards the Eaton's Centre. He said that I must be looking for 6 King Street (he was not sure of the number). I looked back at where I came from and lo and behold! the slim tall building was there. He said, it was completed three years ago! Where have I been? I work downtown. Every spring and on the not too oppressive days of summer, I walk to Bloor and pass by King. I have completely missed this building. I have never looked up all these times. I have learned to tune out my surroundings and mind my own business. Citynoise changed that for me. Now, pray do tell...Is that a good thing? Or a bad thing?

elaine: good thing. that'll be $50.

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Feel the love, CityNoise.

EvilGentleman: 26th Feb 2006 - 04:50 GMT

I have to agree that citynoise has opened up a new world to me, and has allowed me to express myself in ways I never considered before. I am so thankful that CBC provided the citinoise link when it covered hool's motorist vs courier post a few weeks ago. After expressing myself in a rather opinionated manner for a while, and getting myself into a few stupid side argumants, the page finally closed, and I started looking around. Once I started getting a better feel for the site, posting seemed natural. I notice that I see all things differently now, cuz I see lots of new post material everywhere I look. Thanks all!

Elicar: Elaine, you are priceless!

elaine: 26th Feb 2006 - 13:47 GMT

hah - does that mean i don't get my fifty bucks? humph.

evil gent - i was the same when i pitched up, full of sound and fury. don't think i have said anything 'political' since, tho.

Peter: 27th Feb 2006 - 14:44 GMT

"...Discovering Citynoise made me more aware of my surroundings..."

thats awesome! its done the same for me, for sure.

Jamie: 27th Feb 2006 - 14:55 GMT

yeh, but you didn't discover it you bloody CREATED it. Didn't you. You evil genius you :-P

Elicar: 27th Feb 2006 - 17:44 GMT

Peter: Thank you for your comments, but thank YOU for creating this site. It has created an oulet for the likes of me who "dabble" into this sort of thing but have not really taken it seriously. Now, I am thinking of buying a fancy camera, unless my fridge or furnace breaks down first. KNOCK ON WOOD!

Peter: :) go for it!
