Morning sky from 15 shots taken over a 13 minute period on New Year's day 2006. 50km away 3,500 years ago, under this sky a civilisation ended. This posting was interrupted by an earthquake, 6.9 strength. Can or does the sky remember??

I posted these for my parents. The view is from their backyard. My dad tried to post them himself, but thinks that he bought on the earthquake that hit Greece earlier today by typing 'Armagedon'.

Note: their digital camera adds any date it feels like, despite numerous resets. It's favorite is 2.2.1997 It also likes to display deleted pictures.

elaine: 8th Jan 2006 - 18:52 GMT

i like that your folks digital camera has a will of it's own. and that your dad thinks he can bring on armageddon.
also, you realise you are actually american now? you spelt favourite favorite. you will be a foreigner when you return to hastings, now.

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 8th Jan 2006 - 19:52 GMT

I'm Englican. I've been here 12 years now and I'm becoming a citizen in february. But I have 5 pairs of Union Jack socks and they'll never take them away from me.

Kato: 8th Jan 2006 - 21:14 GMT

I tried to teach her to spell and speak proper. Why haven't I got any Union Jack socks?

elaine: 8th Jan 2006 - 21:42 GMT

hahaha. nice one on the socks. you know 'smeg' fridges do a union jack fridge, i so want one. it's such a great flag. i am pissed about the crusades cos i think the english flag (aka the butcher's apron) is about one of the coolest logos i have ever seen. beats the nike swoosh any day of the week. sadly i live among muslims and i really would not like to offend anyone, but every time there is some football thing or whatever and it goes on sale on t shirts i have to really restrain myself.
congratulations on your citizen ship

Jamie: 8th Jan 2006 - 22:03 GMT

It really is a shame that the british flag has accrued such racist connotations within it's home country. It's a timeless piece of classic design. The perfect logo. Don't get me wrong i don't give two shits for patriotism. This country sucks donkey cocks. And I've totally always wanted a smeg fridge too just for the fact that it says 'smeg' on it. heh.

Kato: 8th Jan 2006 - 23:16 GMT

I hope you know the meaning of smeg, I personally would have to wash out every crevice of a fridge with the name of smeg with bleach. But then I haven't got the socks.

elaine: 9th Jan 2006 - 02:34 GMT

acourse, but as well as that, it is also the coolest retro styled fridge - all other fridges are either white boxes or american two doored wardrobe style. the smeg fridge is either camper van retro coloured with chrome like this one www.johnlewis.com/jl_assets/Product/230209080.jpg or italian job union jack www.johnlewis.com/Electrical/Fridges+and+Freezers/Fridges+and+Freezers/Fridges/3588/Product.aspx
i rest my case

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 9th Jan 2006 - 02:38 GMT

I so want one!

Mum, I'll send you some Union Jack socks.

elaine: 9th Jan 2006 - 02:46 GMT

well, zacly. however, i have not seen one for less than 900gbp

but i still want one

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 9th Jan 2006 - 02:49 GMT

I've got a degree in art...I think I'll paint my fridge like this. I'm sure my landlady wouldn't mind.

elaine: 9th Jan 2006 - 03:02 GMT

absolutely. when i got my new fridge it was from my mum and of the regular variety. it was better than my food going off even faster than it does. my thought was "sticky backed plastic" which was v 'blue peter' of me, but although i do say 'sellotape' and not 'sticky tape' i can't quite get with the 'fablon' idea. to me it will always be 'sticky backed plastic' and they do one which is all blue and bubbly i like.
also, in 'vision on' they used to often have clips of factories doing their thing. when did we stop being so eastern block i wonder?

jack: actually it is a nice looking flag.

elaine: 9th Jan 2006 - 17:50 GMT

really is, isn't it?
the english one is also good

there was a british friend of mine in the army with me, his name was patrick kilackie. he made tea every day for us at 4 pm and we sat around cleaning our m-14s and sharpening our bayonetts and sipping tea listening to classical music.

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 14th Jan 2006 - 15:46 GMT

What does an earthquake look like? There are earthquake stations all over the globe, but this link shows real time readings from Greece and the Agean. bbnet.gein.noa.gr/Real_Time_Plotting.htm. Last weekend there was a 6.9 earthquake and this is the snap shot from the VAM station near my parents in Crete.

Well...uuuuuuhhhh, I'm actually here to talk about the photos, oddly enough. I like the epic feeling they've got, very strange and beautiful cloud formations, full of portent.

That refrigerator is really cool too.
