Jamie: i'm liking the pastel shades of late a lot

elaine: 20th Dec 2005 - 11:45 GMT

my brother used to call that poly bagging - they used to use bin bags - this was edinburgh i add, you couldn't do anything like this in the balmy south

roland: 20th Dec 2005 - 11:58 GMT

yeah - only the posh people, like the kids of the checkout women at the co-op had access to fancy bits of cardboard as makeshift sledges. bin liners were the trend for corstorphine hill, which was quite steep, - the challenge was to get enough speed for a thrill but then stop before getting flanders fielded on the barbed wire fence by the road

elaine: 20th Dec 2005 - 12:06 GMT

ha. you slay me with the flanders field thing - grandad would have liked that story i think. i wonder if there really is an afterlife where he and grannie know how we used to play grannie and grandad by nashing around the living room on our knees?

roland: 20th Dec 2005 - 12:27 GMT

knew you'd like WW1 reference, if grandad is omniscient now he'll also know that mum didn't put pudding on the table untill he'd finished his mains due to his shock and awe approach to applying salt and pepper to his food. Back to WW1 & grandad - I still want to know if we've got italian cousins...

Grandad WW1 anecdote: He joined up at the start of the war and by 1917 was on the italian front, having survived 3 years of bombs and mustard gas. His unit was given a few days r&r a couple of miles from the front and were lounging by the side of the road when the first american soldiers arrived in a collumn of trucks, they stopped and asked grandad where fritz and his damn war was, to which grandad replied "there's nay war, we're hai'n a half day"

elaine: 20th Dec 2005 - 12:36 GMT

my idea? go to italy and look out for;
1) blanket bombing salt and pepper action
2) people who constantly tap their companion's arm while talking to them
3) people who have a disconserting resemblence to scottish cartoon characters 'the broons'
4) anyone actually acting out whole scenes from films just by way of ordinary conversation

roland: 20th Dec 2005 - 13:27 GMT

5) displayng an irrational hatred for John Wayne
6) saying you can't take a bus coz they belong to the council
7) taking their bride to a hibs match after their wedding ceremony
8) losing their fingers in amuntion factories

ok - no 8 might not be genetic

elaine: 20th Dec 2005 - 13:31 GMT

and the laugh, and the broken tear ducts (that was mustard gas, also not genetic)

jack: 20th Dec 2005 - 21:32 GMT

the first snow figure looks like a girl i once dated in 1960

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 20th Dec 2005 - 21:44 GMT

Fine taste in women you have, Jack.

jack: 21st Dec 2005 - 23:23 GMT

she was a cold bitch. could never warm up to her. she ran off with some guy named, 'frosty'. i hate him. i wonder if they ever made snowballs.

Melissa: 2nd Feb 2006 - 13:14 GMT

Anyplace, Brooklyn

Metrotech is a section of Brooklyn that I never really thought to photograph before. I have to admit that there was nothing to my catch my eye in it’s featureless corporate landscape. Are you smiling for the cameras? But...
