City Cabbages

One of the many things that I love about New York is people’s connection to nature. Window boxes, hanging baskets, plant pots balanced on every surface -- even the tiniest space has some bit of greenery making the best of it.

The city planners planted trees along many streets, each a miniscule oasis in the cement desert. During the summer, these small squares are a riot of color. They soften the edges of the city. Dogs love ’em too. In winter, some become depressing pools of mud and cigarette butts, after all, not much can survive a New York winter. Except cabbages. These hardy and beautiful plants outshine sunflowers and put roses to shame. And if you could wash the dog pee off of them, they’re probably quite tasty, too.

(This is on 58th and Park Ave and Madison)

they certainly stand up to the cold when everything else (save the ivy) has withered away.

it's classified here in Oregon as a noxious weed and revolutionaries are staging guerrilla warefare to rid Forrest Park of it. they are known as the No Ivy League. the city park is over 5000 acres, however...so...good luck fellas.

i like the fence around the tree. that is my favorite place in town.

E: Salad anyone?
