i like your worker photos, i always did. i am glad you have posted some new ones, it's still a seriously underrepresented genre and a really particular kind of social document, as well as making for good viewing

Peter: wow. the one of the kneeling worker. wow.

elaine: 19th Dec 2005 - 00:03 GMT

yeah, i was really struck by that one too, it looks like a prayermat posture, quite a double entendre

ian: 19th Dec 2005 - 00:51 GMT

I spent nearly an hour photographing the two men repairing the switching mechanism for the light-rail train. I felt that posture was appropriate because it was only a block or two from the (magnificently beautifully restored) Islamic Dawah Center. It fits in with my worker series -- my almost religious devotion to the technological infrastructure that powers our society. The people who build and repair devices like this really are our priests.

elaine: good theme

vz: do you know fernand leger?

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 19th Dec 2005 - 14:19 GMT

Glorious pictures. Really atmospheric. A real treat. (The will to laud photos is with me, the command of the English language is not.)

ian: 19th Dec 2005 - 21:56 GMT

vz, after googling, I've seen and remembered several of his paintings, although I was not directly familiar with his name. Lately I've been thinking that maybe I should study 'art', at least, the accepted canon of work in fields that interest me, to give more perspective to the photographs I take. I guess my main influences are Sebastio Salgado and Henri Cartier-Bresson, but those are pretty obvious "big names" and just reflect my lack of depth of knowledge on artistic works.

jack: check out mann.
