Technically, when these photos were taken, this country was officially called Burma.

Explanation_of_the_names_of_Burma/Myanmar

Favoutite quote: "The new name "Myanmar" has been recognized by the United Nations, but several countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada, sometimes refer to it as Burma"

Long live colonialism, eh

Fan-freakin-tastic pictures!
I am in love with Ian's entire family for these photos.

Jamie, I considered that. I decided to use the original placenames in the titles, but the modern names in the "Location," so that any mapping scripts wouldn't break.

Jamie: Sorry, i was just being comically pedantic.

jeeff: 28th Nov 2005 - 16:12 GMT

the reason canada (and i'm sure the uk too) still use the name 'burma' is to avoid giving legitimacy to the military junta which took over the territory, changed the country's name, and which remains one of the most repressive regimes in the world.

Jamie: i'll drink to that
