My favorite thing about this set is the steam locomotive in the background of the 2nd shot, crossing over a truss bridge.

so beautiful. i can tell you're getting better with the scanner. thanks for pointing out the train in #2. i really like the bird in the middle of #5 as well. it completes the composition perfectly.

The first one with the lighthouse could be Montauk, NY....until you notice the monkey. These are fabulous, Ian. So what's the story behind it being a world tour? Was your Dad on a really amazing vacation? Was he back-packing? I know that you were four years away from being sired, but was your mum in the picture? I'm so nosy. Feel free to tell me to shut my pie-hole.

barry: Lovly photos Ian.

Nothing short of astounding. Have i also said how much i like the way you're not cropping out the edges? It lends weight to the olde-worlde analogueness of the photos. great work ^_^

barry: 12th Nov 2005 - 02:10 GMT

I bet you could sill get photos like this to day if you looked.

barry: 12th Nov 2005 - 02:33 GMT

ian: 12th Nov 2005 - 04:49 GMT

Back in the 70's, Pan-Am Airlines had a deal where you could purchase a special, unlimited ticket. You could take an open seat on any flight going anywhere you wanted, with the rule being you could only travel East of your present location. It was open ended and good for 1 full year. And to answer your question, my dad didn't meet my mom until a few years later. She was a student at the university where he was a professor :)

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 12th Nov 2005 - 17:17 GMT

Thanks Ian. It great to have context! I could really go for one of those unlimited east-only tickets right about now.

Jamie: 12th Nov 2005 - 19:17 GMT

I think it's still true to a certain extent that it's much cheaper to travel the world in the wrong direction.

Jamie: p.s. your dad rocks

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Yeah, he rocks the world.

GGP: beautiful images--glad to come upon these.
