[previous] :: [next]On the way to the bar for dirty martinis
From the bar where I drank dirty martinis (The Library Bar on 41st and Madison)
This article has been viewed 4600 times in the last 3 years jeeff: 28th Oct 2005 - 17:34 GMTwow, really nice photos looking down on the street. pretty unmistakable. i like #2 as well, with the one guy's face captured clearly in a crowd. also, what's a dirty martini exactly? i found recipes on the web but i don't know the difference between those and regular martinis.
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 28th Oct 2005 - 18:30 GMTI'm somewhat new to dirty martinis. They are regular martinis (I prefer vodka to gin) with some of the juice from the olive bowl thrown in. You usually get some extra olives, too. Making it a nice snack and a very potent drink. The photos are a bit out of focus 'cos the flash wasn't on and I was pretty unsteady. Also, note to self: don't drink and post to websites. jack: 28th Oct 2005 - 20:12 GMTcatherine, thank you for the pic's. they are great. i worked at the grand hyatt. perhaps next week i'll wrap myself in a blanket and sit in the halls of the terminal and beg for a dirty martini. i think i'll go up stairs and make myself a martini, a nice clean one. i like to dose the cubes with dry vermouth, then throw out the vermouth and pour vodka over the cubes, thats a dry martini. with three olives. Catherine: 28th Oct 2005 - 21:02 GMTYou are an excellent photographer. I feel like I'm right there, on 42nd Street, Mother: 28th Oct 2005 - 21:51 GMTAnd you told me you were still a teetotaller, have you been telling Mummy porky pies? vz: 29th Oct 2005 - 06:27 GMTthe drunk ones have a better sense of composition than the sober ones.
kc: 30th Oct 2005 - 00:18 GMTwhat a fabulous sky. And i love the one that goes straight down. feared you'd gone to thinking about jumping for a moment. happily not. jack: 30th Oct 2005 - 23:19 GMTcatherine, please don't jump. life is worth living no matter what peter say's. your photos are starting to outshine peter's. i always thought that peter had depth of mind and sense. you seem to show us scenes that we see as tourists in all its splendor. you capture the spirit of the picture. you are a manhattanite. jack: 30th Oct 2005 - 23:20 GMTthanks for a shot of the hyatt. i remember walking from there to rockefeller center and then to the port of authority Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 31st Oct 2005 - 22:25 GMTFor the overhead picture of cars, it looks more dangerous than it was. I was very secure and I am not thinking of shuffling off this mortal coil anytime soon. I don't want to go worrying my Mother (previous posting) as that actually is my Mum. Hi Mum. Annemarie: 2nd Jan 2006 - 23:25 GMTThank you for the photos and the website. Its fab. Visited New York March 2005 and can't wait to return. So thanks for helping rekindle the memories.....
