These are great! The third one down, under the bridge with the water, is really disorientating. Threre's something about the quality of light that throws you off balance. It's cool.

isn't that the bridge where the bats all chill under?

elaine: i love that top one

Paul G: 23rd Oct 2005 - 05:16 GMT

Thanks! The bridge - pictured - is over Barton Creek, in Zilker Park. I think that the bats live under the bridges that cross Town Lake a/k/a the Colorado River a/k/a Lake Austin. I think...

Austin, I think, has layers: sorority-princess and squeaky clean all-american boy; cyclist-runner; cowboy/cowgirl; retro dudes and gals; underground-outsider. There are definite types here. The city is very 50's and very 90's...sort of vintage Johnny Cash mixed with Nirvana.

The people here look, on average, even more healthy than they look in San Francisco. This is a tall, long-limbed, dark-haired city.

I am shocked at the number of small shops and independent businesses. In Chicago, now, you need to push out away from the CBD to find the old neighborhood sights and smells. That is not the case, here...though the development seems to be following the familiar patterns [read: strip malls with national chains] in the outlying areas.

paulg, love the photos, man! also love your take on the strata of . ive only been there once, but i must say that you hit the nail right on the head, especially with the cash-avec-nirvana bit, heh.

i love the tattoo cycle boy shot-i know it's a face i've made while biking.
zilker park-what a place, no?
wild shots-i'm getting dizzy...

Paul G: 21st Nov 2005 - 08:44 GMT

andree, you like tattooed boys on bikes. period. i have proof: irish proof.

Ed S: 13th Aug 2006 - 13:08 GMT

The bridge is indeed the 360 bridge. however the bats are under the Congress St. bridge in downtown Austin.

this is the world's largest contingent of Mexican Bats. they are in Austin from Spring to Fall.

MW: 20th May 2007 - 01:18 GMT

Not the 360 Bridge.
Not Congress (Bat Bridge)
The man who took the photo is right on the money, Barton Springs Road Bridge.
