A Different Perspective
Browsing articles by Jeeff - [previous] :: [next]i thought that going back to school would give me a new perspective. this is the robarts library (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robarts_Library
it's supposed to look like a peacock. my department is located on the 14th floor. i was lost in the halls yesterday when i caught a ray of sunlight and looked outside:
"wow, i've never seen the city from this angle before..." This article has been viewed 2586 times in the last 3 years elaine: 21st Oct 2005 - 06:59 GMTi can sort of see the peacock thing from the fromt, but separated from the background it looks more like a dog. jeeff: 21st Oct 2005 - 07:21 GMTyeah the place is an architectural nightmare. i always think, "turkey" rather than peacock, which i think is appropriate. inside is even worse. totally confusing and claustrophobic. at least it has a good view. Peter: 21st Oct 2005 - 15:56 GMTwow, that building is crazy! definitely "turkey" over peacock. whts in the part thats the bird's "head"? that looks like some odd use of space. the view is breathtaking... i was surprised to see so much green. trees! autumn! thanks for posting these :) jeeff: 21st Oct 2005 - 16:45 GMTthe part with the head (below the head really) is the thomas fisher rare book library. the oldest piece in their collection is a 1789 BC cuneiform tablet from ur. they have all sorts of crazy shit. info (and a pixelated photo of the library's interior) here: www.library.utoronto.ca/fisherold/ colavito's ghost: 24th Oct 2005 - 21:24 GMTlet's just pretend it did look like a peacock; would that be much better? 2012: 17th Nov 2005 - 02:20 GMTYeah I thought the edgy design gave off a nice futuristic look. I'll just pretend that I didn't read about any peacocks here tonight. tmc: 5th Feb 2006 - 01:42 GMTJust another example of the architect who thinks he's an artist. U of T is fully of buildings like this one. Not far from it is a building that does a great job of looking like a sand crawler. Tiniest windows I've ever seen on a building that's supposed to be a residence. Oh where, oh where have all the true architects gone? It is actually possible to design a building that is both beautiful AND functional. Yet, it's the flakes that get all the high profile projects. *SIGH*
