This is the skylight from my old apartment in Hell's Kitchen. Whenever the weather turned to rain or snow, accompanied by brisk winds, tiny bits of the rain/snow would be blown into the house through the inverted cap-vent at the top of the skylight. You could hear the wind whipping into it. Often, I would lay on the floor in the hall below it (which also served as our kitchen- it was a very small apartment) and gaze up into the skylight, through its coating of city-grime, and into the deep blue sky above.

reminds me very much of my dingy flat in northern ireland. it had no windows, save for the two in the kitchen. the whole place was illuminated by skylights like this. it was a very soul sucking place to live.

it looks like a monster ready to come down and eat you up. hells kitchen, i went to the high school for printing on 48th street and 10th ave. hells kitchen was my old stomping grounds.

that place is still there, but its a giant print-house now. i think its called "color graphics" or something. a giant company. you can see all their printing presses and offsets through the ground-floor window.
