The Magic Garden

This is the mothership; all the other mosaics gracing the nearby blocks are its satellites. I've often walked by this place, sometimes even stopped to look at it from the outside. But today was the first day I've ever seen the gate open. Inside, construction workers were making some additions, with dazed spectators like myself -- tourists and longtime residents alike -- being too awed to avoid getting in their way. And then I met Isaiah Zagar himself. The construction workers were addressing him in Spanish: "artista." I said everything was wonderful and asked if I could take some pictures, he said yes.

The light was kind of bad-- wrong time of day. And it all looks a little jumbled in some of the photos. I guess you have to be there to really see it, and I encourage everyone to do so.

The Romanesque arcade -- this is what they were putting up. Very Don Justo and it seems to be working really well with those niches.

Thanks for this cool post.

I must dig up my pictures of the Owl House in Nieu Bethesda, in the Karoo in South Africa. There is a very clear relationship.

In the meanwhile check out: www.owlhouse.co.za/gallery2.html
