Torched Van

canalside a burned out hire van, which is a bit unusual.

the remains of a kebab

and if you put your head in where the sliding door is open, in the back of this van there was a freshly laid human turd. yes there was, and i couldn't bring myself to photograph it, call me a prude if you like.
what gets me is there is a railway bridge right next to it, and plenty peaceful places for the caught short to dump in a bit more comfort, let alone pubs and cafes which may have been open, but someone chose to go into a burnt out van for their releif. does this make sense to anyone?

did the turd have a george dubya flag stuck into it?

elaine: 1st Sep 2005 - 14:57 GMT

oddly, not that i noticed, it looked pretty intact with no frills. i would have been very pleased if it had, and would have taken that photograph for sure.

I love the photo of the steering wheel, it really puts it into context with what it used to be. Amazing

elaine: 1st Sep 2005 - 15:49 GMT

yeah, it's kind of pretty too, having had all whatever plastic burned off... delicate. i had one from the front which was nice of the steering wheel, but it was a little blurred

Peter: 1st Sep 2005 - 15:51 GMT

its a real shame you didnt get the turd, you know, heheheheh.

elaine: 1st Sep 2005 - 15:59 GMT

i couldn't bring myself to, though i did read all the way through www.swinney.org/journals/article.phtml?id=3872this morning...so i don't have a total policy on my censorship, but it did have a truly visceral yuk factor at the time, despite no smell being apparent beyond the scorch, probably a lot more than if it hadda been outside - something about having to get so close to get a picture... [shudders]

Peter: heh. and OMG that story is nuts!

x0a/.09: 1st Sep 2005 - 19:15 GMT

why is there a half consumed box of food sitting onthe floor remains?

x0a/.09: its their house.

Oh my god! shitty island (yeah thats what we called that place, even though it isnt an actual island)
I live pretty close to there and we used to go fishing in that exact spot on the canal behind the van. That gap in the fence was how we got onto the actual canal.
Small world.

Nick: 4th Sep 2005 - 22:48 GMT

I walked past there last week, the walk along the canel is amazing as you got the contrast with the burnt out van/ run down buildings and then the expensive/and modern apartments, and then the old fashioned canal boats and locks
