Hello readers and wiewers.. i wanted to share a little story about a guy who had his life destroyed by some gang members. And that they got away with it in some way. Im sharing this with you so you all can have an idea how our law system works in Norway..

This guy who allready was handicaped from a previous car accsident, was attacked by some local gang members while he was on his way home. They jumped him,hit him, kicked him, made this poor guy bleed badly, and stole his wallet. This insident happend on a city bus packed full of people.... When this handicaped guy tryed to get his wallet back, they jumped him again, and this time so badely that the guy ended up in hospital and in coma for 4 months.Nobody on this bus tryed to help this guy.. Today this guy is linked to a weelchair, he can't do anything by himself anymore. He is dependent on help from nurses in a nursing home.

This criminal case is up in the norewgian court system this days.. And for destroying a human life like this, this gang members only gets a few years in jail. In Norway you can drive a car to fast, or drive while intoxicated, steal, comit buglary, sell drugs.. and for this get a harder jail time than if you destroy a other humans life. In Norway you can even kill a person without getting hard time in jail..(you can also kill a few people and only get sentence for one murder) the system will give you at the most 21 yrs for murder, but that depends on the case... BUT you don't have to spend that many years in jail if you behave yourself.. only 2/3 of the sentence. And one year in jail is 8 months.
What i want with this story is to tell you that if you are planning to visit Norway, and you are exposed to an criminal act, don't be so sure you will get your justice.. Did you know that 90% of all rape cases in Norway dosen't even get investigated by Police..most cases is postponed because of the lack of evidence.. Only 3 out of 100 criminal cases is solved by the Police. Norway has only 4,4 million people, most criminal acts is focused in the capitol of Norway,Oslo. And in the capitol it is only about 500.000 people living....

your situation there is horrible. but its almost the same way here. if you commit murder, or drug and have sex with little children and have enough money you get off, scott free. no matter how many people you kill. because of stupid people with their own sense of priorities. if you do a lesser crime, you get the max.

Peter: 30th Aug 2005 - 17:09 GMT

you also get the max if youre black. or latino. or especially if youre poor (of any race).

Mr Norway..: 30th Aug 2005 - 18:35 GMT

I have often read news from USA, (from the internett news)and also went into NYPD and LAPD web sides and looked at the most wanted lists... and i can see that it is only black, hispanic or latin people who have warrents hanging on their heads.. very few whites..IN USA!! and i read what this people have done... WHY is it so many criminals in your country? I know you're a large country.. with many different people.. It seems like your country too.. is out of control..

Peter: 30th Aug 2005 - 18:48 GMT

at least we dont have the highest suicide rate in the world, like norway does ;)

Peter: 30th Aug 2005 - 18:53 GMT

also: we have a very outdated criminal justice system. you can go to jail for years for carrying a few grams of marijuana in many states, for example. im sure in norway, the cops would just laugh and send you on your way for that sort of thing. and thats good.

its time for our legal system to catch up with modern, socially-responsible times, thats for sure.

Mr Norway..: 30th Aug 2005 - 19:42 GMT

Peter.. seems like you read alot... and you know things about Norway too.. :) But you are a little wrong about our suicide rates.. Norway is a little country, and based on our population.. it may look like we have the highest rates in suicides, but it isn't true. Have you ever been to europe Peter?? have you been traveling in the world? i know that many americans dosen't know much about other countrys than your own.. most of you have blinders to the open world... and have your own wiew on whats right or whats wrong... I heard a stupid remark from your President one time.. either you are against us.. or you are with us... he he.. pretty big words from a "short guy" hiding behind the buttons of your NUCS Peter...

vz: 30th Aug 2005 - 21:01 GMT

Mr. Norway, reading this thread, I think Peter cited the suicide rate to lighten the mood of this discussion a little, not to make a damning personal counter-accusation... I guess that might've gotten lost in there just a little bit by the time it got to your end.

Also, have you ever noticed that you rarely get anywhere by assuming things about people?

Mr Norway..: 30th Aug 2005 - 21:37 GMT

He he he he he.. you see me laughing... ;) I can only laugh of all your remarks.. To the last individual who posted his.. or her remarks here.. When did this become an discussion??? Have you ever read the top page.. about the guy i wrote about?? It is not an discussion pal... it's just a story about the guy who had his life destroyd by some gang members.. I wanted to share the story because i was pissed off about this case... This Peter.. what ever the hell his name was.. started this "so called discussion" about suicide rates....What a f...k is up with that!!??

Peter: 31st Aug 2005 - 13:26 GMT

geez, lighten up mr. norway. youre really making yourself out to be pretty confrontational, aggressive and grating here, and im not too sure why...?

elaine: 31st Aug 2005 - 14:20 GMT

perhaps citynoise is being credited with some political power... it is a common mistake, one i have made myself, and try to keep in check, to think that the people of a country are in some way synonymous with the government. they're not.
by the way, a swedish friend told me that the 'suicide rates in scandenavia as common knowledge' thing was a rumour put about by the cia in order to discredit what are functioning socialist countries. i have no proof, and would think it was conspiricist rubbish if it were not for the artworld revalation of the cia's part in bankrolling abstract expressionism in order to promote the usa as a place of unusual freedom in direct contrast to socialist realism - despite a parallel painting culture of american realism en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_expressionism wot larks!

jack: 31st Aug 2005 - 17:08 GMT

life is not fair. bad things happen. how about some interesting photos of norway. there must be some comical things there to make us all chuckle a little. this is a site for artists. the world is in a frightful mess so lets lighten up a little. keep politics out, im sorry for talking politics sometimes but i get upset with people using this as a speaking box.

vz: 31st Aug 2005 - 19:05 GMT

elaine, good to know -- both about the suicide rates and about abstract expressionism.

elaine: 31st Aug 2005 - 20:14 GMT

yeah. a bit of doubt goes a long way. heavy conspiricy addiction can lead to depoliticisation, becoming overwhelmed by the everythingness of things, but a bit of scepticism keeps an eye open...i don't have any proof of the scandie suicide story, but the abstract expressionism thing is well documented. there is a tale that the cia 'happened to benefit' in increased funding after the oklahoma bombing which seems possible to me, and the salient fact in my opinion is that the 'evidence' was destroyed in the person of timothy mcveigh. death penalty argument anyone?
hah! bet you thought you had heard the last of my political rantings!

Cyberia: 7th Feb 2006 - 04:46 GMT

Sorry just have to add my two cents.
Being born in Trondheim Norway, Raised in Jakarta Indonesia and now a resident of Canada (Go Expats!), Id like to put forward my perspective.
- Firstly Norway is not a "functional socialist" Nation. It has less govt involvement than Canada.
- Suicide rates, however irrelevant are completely inaccurate as a whole, as especially in Asia, S.America and the middle east are incaluable as especially in Muslim counties (Like Indo, or Iraq) Suicide is an incredible Taboo and with so many people in outlying areas no one is going to report it let alone to a census taker. In Indo less than 40% of the pop have birth certs let alone death certs.
- Lets put these numbers in perspective.

Cyberia: 7th Feb 2006 - 04:50 GMT

(ran out of room ;-;)

A crime rate of less than 6% in country of over 4 million is quite low, with over 2/3 being non-violent petty crimes (theft, vandalism). If you beleive that distributing Drugs and Driving drunk are less destructive than damage done to this gentleman that is too bad.

What happened to him is terrible. No one is denying that. It is a terrible act of unforgiveable violence.

But the fact that this case HAS come to trial is proof of faith in the judicial system. How many witnesses would have come forward in Harlem or Thailand? How many cases like this would have come to trial in Iraq or the Balkans?
This is your justice system at work.

EvilGentleman: 15th Feb 2006 - 18:31 GMT

Gang violence, an apathetic, uncaring public, and a justice system more concerned with the rights of the defendant than those of the victim, these are all hallmarks of an advanced liberal society. If only Plato and Dekanawitha could see what has become of their beloved legacy of democracy...

As far as the suicide rate thing goes, I believe I read that Hungary had the highest rate of suicide in the world, as far as published national figures went. I believe the Baltic republics of the former Soviet Union had similar problems. But Cyberia makes a valid point about figures being hard to confirm. I know the rate of suicide in North America differs wildly depending on race, with native Indians and Inuit having the highest suicide rates in both Canada and the USA.

sawsan: that was horrible
