You ask me if I live here...
Indeed,
I sleep, breathe, bleed and succeed in Los Angeles,
But I need to see beyond this City of Angels
To the city of angles:
Different angles of perception;
The city of inception,
Conception
(Immaculate or otherwise),
The city called Paradise,
Where it all began
Before we departed for these parts
Only to be partitioned from each other:
Sister from sister, brother from brother
Split apart into parts of black and white,
And brown and yellow...
And angry, and mellow,
Never realizing that we are birds of a feather,
So we should flock together under the wings
Of these angels
To stay alive in Los Angeles.

I am an angel in Los Angeles.
My wings hide beneath the cross
I carry on my shoulders
As I cross the racial divide,
And I cross myself and bless myself
For blessings are all that we've got
Under this mask of smoldering emotion.
And if your personal hell seems too hot,
Don't be stepping into my kitchen,
But step outside your box
'Cause you need no teaching or preaching
To push you to your fate,
Push you through the gate of realization,
Show you the real you:
Physical manifestation of divine energy
That can entice and overwhelm,
Torment and protect,
Reflect in another's eyes,
And disguise itself
In different realms of perception,
When you know you live in Los Angeles
But it doesn't really matter,
For you are the master of this
Mind-over-matter game,
And you don't blame, shame, tame
Or aim to please anybody
'Cause you are yoUNIQUE,
And nobody can tell you how to feel
Until he has walked in your shoes.
Even then, it still wouldn't be the same.

You are alive in the world!
You don't live a lie in the world.
This is it: premiere with no rehearsal.
And you'd better heed the truth:
There is no reversal to this game.
So, don't waste your youth!
Go, live blamelessly,
Shamelessly free!
Go, and just
Be!
