First Video Post!

I've been toying about with my videophone, and wanted to post some quick flicks that I've recently grabbed. The movies are in . format, which you should be able to play in Quicktime.

(The commute video is blurry due to so much filth on the train window... it also ends abruptly because a Conductor demanded that I stop filming due to "anti-terror" measures.)

Feedback below is appreciated, as I'd like to perfect this process and do it more often...

wow great stuff! yes, i for one would enjoy seeing more.

GGP: 12th Aug 2005 - 16:17 GMT

well, hot damn! this is fabulous.
i love the primitive graininess and the watercolory hues.
makes me think of an early 60s road movie, or rudy burckhardt's photos of queens...and films.
nice to watch it silent, and very nice to play the Knitters while watching it--do try this at home!
I love the part, mid-way through, when the plane flies by.
I love the robot-building, buried up to its eyeballs, on the right side of the screen, around the same point in the piece.
and I love the way the little strip ends, abruptly, yes, in the field of green.
good work; i'm moved.

im gonna pop in a bigger sd card so i can get more vid on the phone. the graniness is cool, indeed, but i sure wish the path trains had cleaner windows, cause that would drastically improve the video quality, heh...

i liked the plane part too... when i saw that while filming, i was like "rock! planes, trains and automobiles for citynoise... perfect!"

the you refer to is in the train yard where the path trains sleep at night. i think its their service/repair/shelter building for operations. there are usually tons of off-duty trains waiting there.

but today, yes, i shall avert the conductor and try to get some more stuff. maybe out of a side window... we'll see!

caracarn: 12th Aug 2005 - 16:49 GMT

nice work man. the sd card totally changes your video deal - i don't even have a huge one and it made big changes for me.

GGP: 12th Aug 2005 - 16:51 GMT

that's funny what you say about the plane bec/ when i saw that, i thought, "Peter must have been PSYCHED when that went by!!!"

Peter: 12th Aug 2005 - 17:05 GMT

cara: yeah i had the big sd in the digicam, which was at home. rest assured, ive switched em out today :)

ggp: totally! and did you see the trains that passed on the left, too? one new jersey transit train and one freight.

GGP: 12th Aug 2005 - 17:51 GMT

yes, caught that and enjoyed. i really love the pacing of the piece, the meandering and the sense of being-meandered-past.

Peter: 12th Aug 2005 - 18:09 GMT

ggp: it made me think of the chemical brother's "star guitar" video... its a similar train-scenery pov with a twist... www.thechemicalbrothers.com/disco/videos/star/index.html

GGP: 12th Aug 2005 - 18:45 GMT

i liked that video, but yours was better, p.o.v.- and other-wise.

Agen : 15th Aug 2005 - 16:28 GMT

Thanks to the both of you for giving me something to watch this morning :D

kc: 16th Aug 2005 - 11:52 GMT

Hey. Missed the plane, caught the train...I enjoyed it, too. I love standing in the front of trains, but....there was something about this that made me think about how narrow the view can be, couldn't go wide for a second here (although I began to want to), wonder what the mind of a train driver (?) goes to....made me think of an old silent...of course, it was silent, the way I listened to it anyway. This is the same size as any other phone? So cool...
