Last thing at night. He'll be sleeping and I'm ready too, but if I say
"Want a wee?"
He's up and ready, night-time alert, waiting to go...
I open the door and he's off rustling in the bushes for unsuspecting cats, unused to terrier determination! If he is succuesful a flash of green yellow eyes and a sound not unlike an unoiled hinge on high volume with a blur of black and white fur races off into the shadows - too quick for ted - he looks at me and we head down the steps!
He's always ahead, as I go the proper route to the footpath, whilst he cuts through and chases smells and noises. I reach the steps and the panis takes me. I listen for him and hear - nothing.
"Ted" I hiss
Nothing.
I click my fingers and clap - tried and tested methods.
Silence.
"C'mon ted" I shout
Suddenly he's next to me and I breathe. His legs are trembling the excitemnent of the night has taken over his body.
" Did you find a fox?"
His tail is still twitching as we round the corner back to the flat and the front door. One last sniff and he's in gobbling a mouthfull of food before gulping water then bed.
