Fresh off the heels of 's entry about the Atlantic Rail Yards, I wanted to post some photos of my own, as this area is certain to see some drastic changes in the near future, and its current state is well worth documenting...

This photo shows the east border of the yards, with a Metro-North train passing throug hthe layup there.

wow! the trains and the graffiti! this is nice. i am reading the links at the end and i would have never imagined the strife. i assume that most area residents are against the development?

GGP: 26th Jul 2005 - 14:05 GMT

this is so great! I love the green Unterberg building! I love this edge-space so close to home. I will miss it when it's gone.

Peter: 26th Jul 2005 - 14:07 GMT

piranha erem: yes, most of the people in the areas surrounding this spot are against it... the plan involves exercising eminent domain to force many people form their existing homes, which will allegedly be assimilated into the construction project.

GGP: yeah, me too... if you come across any additional links that might be of interest to readers, post em here :)

Atlantic Yards

will be
the next Atlantis--
a former city
buried
beneath the sea of something else,
sea of what comes next.

piranha erem: 26th Jul 2005 - 17:33 GMT

wow i feel like i have walked all around that neighborhood after reading all of this.... here is hoping the bad plan doesnt happen.

What ever flots your boat I think this graffiti is crap.No defense peter. There Is a lot beter than that out there. You have alot of good articles but I did not like this one.I no you were ownly documenting it. If I lived in this area i would say get rid of it. more work for nyc.I think ggp is the ownly person that is going to miss this area.

Peter: 10th Oct 2005 - 14:21 GMT

miss the area? yeah, anyone who doesnt want a giant conglomerate of high-rises and unpopular arenas and hige skyscrapers built towering over their quaint brooklyn homes is gonna miss this area.

saying youd get rid of graf is like saying youd get rid of the homeless, dirt, pollution or any other unpopular aspects of the urban life. its inescapable.

i think that people who obses over the "graffiti problem" have really lost touch about what priorities should be in renewing/cleaning up urban areas. its soooo not the highest priority "problem".

theres an awesome updated read called "what were losing: razing for ville begins" at www.forgotten-ny.com/STREET%20SCENES/ratnerdevelop/underberg.html that is certainly worth an indepth look...
