The Federation of Black Cowboys
[previous] :: [next]
Some of The Federation of Black Cowboys ride in Prospect Park. www.federationofblackcowboys.com This article has been viewed 8715 times in the last 3 years GGP: 22nd Jul 2005 - 17:31 GMTI love these guys. Seen them around over the years. Nice to have them here. deliccate: 3rd Aug 2005 - 18:19 GMTsaw these guys on TV, Comedy Central: Dave Attell's Insomniac. Now I want to go horse back riding! Lady Chevalier, RaNae: 5th Aug 2005 - 21:16 GMTInspiring, Impressive, and Wonderful. What a great organization. Keep up the work with the youth and helping others to realize the tremendous heritage of your fore fathers. Animals have always taught us, blessed our lives and gives us a chance to learn compassion, empathy, service and love. Lumi: 5th Dec 2005 - 17:06 GMTEnough about these guys. It's their horses, Little Jack and Willow, who are the real heros. Jack and Willow not only deal with these two jamokes, but also bravely put up with traffic, dogs running off leash, picnic'ers on the bridle path, flying trash, to name a few things. The Black Cowboy Federation would be nowhere without their equine partners. Their noble mission reminds us that horses make us better humans. Peter: 5th Dec 2005 - 17:46 GMTpeople picnic on the bridle path? it would be a terrible place for a picnic, what with the curvy cinder path strewn with giant piles of horse poop and hoof divots, and its a super-active horseback riding area. thats funny. Vanessa and Whitney: 2nd Mar 2006 - 18:46 GMTI hope to see these guys roaming up in Canada. That would be nice. GGP: 2nd Mar 2006 - 20:57 GMTI saw a black cowboy on the subway the other day--all duded out with hat, belt, chaps, and a cool Black Cowboys Federation vest (with fringe, no less!). He was an older fellow and was looking through a huge pile of old snapshots, smiling. woodrow wilson/oh goody big woody: 5th Mar 2006 - 18:17 GMTin todays society,cowboys in nyc is a dieing breed. It seems our youth favors sex - technology - fast easy money - and drugs. yet children as well as adults all humble with enthusiasm and respect, when groups like the black cowboys or myself bring from our past. A majestic culture and animal for most to expierence and never forget.As long as im alive i will continue to promote the urban cowboy. Maureen Blair: 15th Apr 2006 - 00:53 GMTI read cowboy magazines and books when I was a little girl in Jamaica. I have always known about black cowboys and their contribution to the West. I am a cowgirl at heart (to the amazement of many). I go to the Bill Pickett tour when I can. It is a day of food, fun, and watching even 8 year old girls bulldogging. I'm glad to see the tradition being maintained, in Brooklyn no less, where I grew up. Stefan: 23rd May 2006 - 22:08 GMTanybody know how I can get in touch with these guys? It seems their website is down, and I'd love to chat with them or see them in their full regalia. thanks. Marilyn a twin: 20th Jun 2006 - 22:04 GMTBefore there was the Federation - there was just us guys riding the Blvd-riding up to the take out window of Burger King - riding the beach area and the streets of Brooklyn and Queens - I sure miss those days - Black and White riders from Linden Blvd - the Hole - as we called it - where are you guys - Big Ray, Butch, Dominic, Laurie, sure had wonderful fun - I left in 1985 for California....now I'm in Kershaw SC - If you are out there guys drop an email dmurphy48@alltel.net Doc Rich: 23rd Aug 2006 - 03:11 GMTKeep up the Good work. From one black cowboy to another!!!!! Peace and BLESSING!!!!!! Carolyn~Gone from NYC, but still rember Clove Lake Stables!: 24th Aug 2006 - 18:18 GMTWish there was more of you and similiar organizations around!! Does anyone remember the black cowboys from Newark?: 13th Sep 2006 - 01:46 GMTLooking for their old stable bonamyami@yahoo.com dea: 21st Sep 2006 - 23:57 GMTi watched this movie today at the global peace festival in orlando florida. Sonny Garguilo Natural Horseman: 29th Sep 2006 - 04:42 GMTCowboy Up! These boys ride!From the oldest to the youngest. Bonnie : 9th Oct 2006 - 22:05 GMTI saw the article in today's NYPOST about the death of Romeo and the injuries to the rider. I live in Manhattan and ride horses in Central MBP: 10th Oct 2006 - 18:38 GMTAlso saw the article - condolences to Romeo's owner and everyone at the stable. I am so sorry for all of you - what a horror. Prayers for the little boy and for everyone involved. Linda: 10th Oct 2006 - 22:24 GMTImpressed with your Federation.......and work with the beautiful horses and children.. Sonny Garguilo Natural Horseman: 11th Oct 2006 - 00:02 GMTI can not believe what happened to Javed. I think about it so much. It is a terrible accident. I know that little cowboy is a real good rider. This could happen to anyone. I send my prayer's and wishes of speedy recovery. I would love to bring my horse SIS and do a demo to raise some money to get another horse for the little cowboy. Please if anyone could contact me I will arrange to be there. David-Jamal Adkins: 15th Oct 2006 - 19:34 GMTI, too, read about the terrible accident, and my heart goes out to the boys, the men, and their horses. HOWEVER, It was also brought to my attention that the child was riding without a helmet. I don't care how long a child has been riding, or how good a "little cowboy" he may be. Riding is an inherently dangerous sport and it is our responsibility as adults to make sure that we make it as safe as possible for our youth, and that means wearing a HELMET! Maybe it's uncool to be a cowboy in a helmet, but if you are under the age of 18, looking "cool" should take a back seat to being safe and being smart. God bless, Sonny Garguilo Natural Horseman: 16th Oct 2006 - 02:02 GMTHey David I culdnt agree more if that is the case. I dont know if he was wearin a helmet, so I dont want to go there. I just want to help in some way. I know a few of these guys( all these cats are cool and can ride) and I love to see a kid that can mount and ride his ass off! Carolann Johnson: 23rd Oct 2006 - 16:25 GMTTo the "coolest" cowboy in the world! (Per my granddaughter, Dayjah): Stencil Stokes... You made our day!(Oct. 22,2006) Everyone that you introduced us to was pleasant... but you're the "TOP" anon (pool-71-125-226-72.nycmny.east.verizon.net): 28th Oct 2006 - 21:30 GMTI was just wondering if the little boy was doing any better now? xspecs@aol.com: 21st Dec 2006 - 15:30 GMTI am a fan of the Federation and interested in pre-Federation Black Cowboys; that is, how the Federation came to formalize. Also very interested in "The Hole," as I grew up on Dumont Avenue and Miller Avenue, and the part of Dumont that was unpaved (we called it 'The Dip') struck me as a bucolic oasis. I am a novelist, and have set a scene in "The Hole." Cowgirl Cyn: 12th May 2007 - 22:34 GMTIn the late '90s I so enjoyed visiting Cedar Lane Stables, bringing youngsters who cleaned up after and washed the beautiful horses, sometimes being encouraged to ride by the Cowboys. What a special place in NYC! And let's not forget the magnficent geese who also lived there by the stream. I'm interested in sharing this oasis with others ... please let me know more about the August rodeo, and how groups can visit, to cgreene@palnyc.org chin316: 29th Jun 2007 - 23:23 GMTLove the federation why dont you hook up wtih the Black Indians and Seawright: 15th Sep 2007 - 22:57 GMTSeen ya at the 4th of July Parade in Plfd., NJ tania : 30th Oct 2007 - 19:35 GMThi all the way from new zealand i saw the documentry on the sky channel i hope you guyz are still riding the horses as one day i do hope to come over and ride in new york with you we will even pay you to take us that would help feed the horses it must be great to ride a horses in new york keep it up guyz your doing great work and more people hopefully will get behind you zetara hill, tea,little bit: 28th Nov 2007 - 15:42 GMThey guys hi how u doing i miss u guys sorry i haven't been around lately i've been busy with college but i didn't forget u guys i still love all the horses maybe u will see me soon tell everyone i said hi Cowboy Vern: 6th Dec 2007 - 01:46 GMTThank all of you for your encouragement.
