Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York. It is the most beautiful building near the Grand Army Plaza subway station.

I used to live in Bay Ridge; parts of Brooklyn are really pretty...

This is the Montauk Club, it has (or had) a great bowling alley in the basement that used small balls and minature pins with a manual ball-return system. I remember as a kid working setting up the pins with a friend for some party. It was super hard work and we thought that because of how hard it was we would get paid alot more then we did, I remember cursing the man that paid us... There was a great bar on the second floor that I remember watching super bowls in, a beautiful building, sadly, it's only now that I truly realize it...the top two floors have been turned into condo.

it looks alot like the old NY Cancer Home up on 106th and CPW, near where i live, in Manhattan- the architecture is very similar. Also similar: this past winter, they began renovating it into luxury condos... after it sat empty, abandoned, and squatted for decades.

oh, i love this building. my good friend Kendal lives just a few blocks from it. the last couple of times i've visited nyc, i've stayed with her. i quickly developed a ritual of starting each day by walking about fifteen minutes to a cafe--Ozzie's, i think--for my morning cup and muffin and i'd pass this building on the way. i took photos of it too, years ago!

it's great to see it again and read some personal anecdotes/history associated with it!

yeah, i love this building too.
last my mom was in brooklyn we spent about 15 minutes staring at it, trying to figure out if the montauk club was like some kind of freaky cult.

Peter: 20th May 2005 - 17:11 GMT

strangely, the other day i snapped a photo of said building... its low quality, but i felt compelled to add it to this thread :)
