Peter: i love swans. so graceful and beautiful.

elaine: 14th Jun 2005 - 21:22 GMT

they are a bugger to photograph, and these ones aren't technically good, but i love the weird origami pose of the last one. i have loads of pictures of swans, mainly dreadful. even though they are big they are hard to photograph, i think it is becasue they are white and the water comes out so dark you don't get enough detail on them, a bit like the crows being so black

Anything scary is an oppourtunity to transcend; to become something new,
stronger. These emotions have messages that if we are determined enough
to heed, not through force but through intently listening, we find
strength. And, here, strength may not be what at first we assume that
it is. Namaste.

elaine: 15th Jun 2005 - 06:17 GMT

they have a special aura, swans. in the water they are like angels, but at the same time they are very solid, nothing etherial about them on land. here they are protected by the crown, not out of conservationist reasons, but traditionally the only person who has a right to have them killed and served for dinner is the queen. i would balk at the idea of eating swan, somehow that would be really wrong. meanwhile their mythology centres around their strength particularly re: 'they can break a man's arm' - this phrase in particular, as if that is what they will do if given half a chance. they can be aggressive, any bird will be defending their young, but i think they would be just as happy to give you a hard peck if the hissing doesn't scare you enough

i think i recall reading somewhere that the idea is to underexpose shooting things like swans and polar bears, not to let the highlight detail get blown out... no help with the crows, though, i guess...

elaine: 4th Jul 2005 - 06:47 GMT

yea, though that kind of presupposes a certain technical grace. i have a stubborn ineptitude about certain things, it's my achilles heel, my feeble technical knowledge

peter, happy belated birthday fellow crabby claws, here is a teenager for ya image 3421

Peter: omg, thats teh cutest thing evar!

elaine: 8th Jul 2005 - 17:36 GMT

i know. i was just looking for the perfect excuse to post it. you can't steal 'em though, not because they belong to the queen, but because their parents are swans - the fabled thugs who can 'break your arm' (though i wouldn't mind my broken arm being down to a swan, it would be a talking point)

Micah: 16th Mar 2006 - 16:47 GMT

'They can break a man's arm you know.' Poor Adrian Mole.

Where I Find My Heaven

There’s this place I go sometimes. It’s partly a state of mind, but mostly it’s a tangible place. A wooden with a cast-iron frame set in the unadorned ambience of suburban . Splendidly bejeweled with the years of idle...
