reguardless of whether or not you believe in architecture and the current flavor of heroes the media today creates....

tis a load of crap.

The idea that you have 'star architects' that accomplish anything on their own is totally crazy,

it takes tonz of people

and most have no idea that the building is gonna ammount to much but they all just do their job.

the texturesz as you walk around this structure are amazing and , I wouldnt ask for more.

but what do you want from your buildings?

and is this enough?

I can argue about it all day, but what I want to know is how the rest of the world feels,. i mean shuld i care or just pretend ?

and yes i cant spelll: ;)....

elaine: 9th May 2005 - 10:28 GMT

is it ghery, though? i mean, if i can tell this, then there is a signiture, and so there is something to the 'stars'
i think you should care and not pretend, and the questions are important.
i have issues about architecture too. i prefer england to scotland partly because england is into customising and vulgarisation, whereas, edinburgh, frinstance is all about having the same colour front doors and railings..

Peter: pretty!

kobe: 9th May 2005 - 18:27 GMT

i like what those buildings are giving us! what are they???

fuzzytank: 9th May 2005 - 18:31 GMT

hehe sorry i got tired and didnt get all the picks resized lastnight.
heres the overview of the building

image 1620

yup its the Ghery Experience Music Project in Seattle Center,
and seattle center is a wierd place all on its own.

if you are farther away its a totally different building.

kobe: 9th May 2005 - 18:32 GMT

woah is that overhead shot taken from the big sky-tower?

fuzzytank: 9th May 2005 - 18:43 GMT

yup and the lines running under the blue piece are the Monorail tracks! ultra futa-ristic baby ;)

elaine: 9th May 2005 - 19:32 GMT

i rest my case. seems to me a person shouldn't complain if they've got a ghery. but i still think it is good to gripe about architecture, all the time if you can get away with it

ea: 9th May 2005 - 20:20 GMT

would it be different if you redefined it as multi-functional sculpture?
I tend to think any architecture that elicits a positive aesthetic response from the general public is worth professional appreciation. especially consindering most people pay no attention to their built surroundings. unless, of course, they find something wrong with it. how can you expect unschooled observers/users to recognize anything more pedantic than the 'star architect's' name? sure we're all tired of Lloyd Wright et al, but publicity funds the cause: beautiful buildings. it would be a lost cause if knowing more about architecture (or any applied art) burdened the innocent joy of experiencing space.

what do I want from my buildings? that they not coexist with us apathetically...and ultimately to be remembered by them, but that is for a different discussion.

elaine: 10th May 2005 - 15:18 GMT

i like it if they work properly, funtion wize, do something exciting visually, and i particularly don't like fascist architecture - the kind of thing that is designed to make me feel like i have to behave well and die soon without making my mark. so public buildings should make whoopie, and homes should be comfortable and customisable

i know: i support and nurture equality not celebrity..

ea: 26th May 2005 - 19:19 GMT

but celebrity has the support and persuasion to pull off such great feats unavailable to simple blanketed equality. diversity! and honor creativity. not all architects have the vision or pomposity to effuse shapes such as those above. some are better suited to tract housing and perpetuating urban sprawl. nonono we do not want architectural equality. unless 'celebrity' is synonymous with opportunity... but then again, this is the land of wasted opportunity.

fuzzytank: 27th May 2005 - 08:05 GMT

workin hard not to waste opportunities here ;)

elaine: good on ya mate

"Architecture belongs to poetry, and its purpose is to help man dwell."

fuzzytank: 2nd Jun 2005 - 08:10 GMT

"We have seen that this is done by means of buildings which gather the properties of the place and bring them close to man. The basic act of architecture is therefore to understnad the "vocation" of the place. In this way we protect the earth and become ourselves part of a comprehensive totality."

-Christian Norberg-Schulz
