the deadline for submissions is july 1, 2005. if your work is chosen, you will need to supply us with a hi-res jpeg of your artwork. we will also be accepting written pieces. similarly, we will attempt to reproduce selected entire articles in book form. we will consider articles that you nominate as outstanding.

questions about the book, and sumbissions:

1) is the book to be sold for a profit, or is it a free "zine" type publication?

2) if the book is sold for a profit, who profits?

3) what about rights to the material submitted?

4) who is on the jury, i.e., who is selecting the works for the publication?

5) how, where, when will this thing be distributed?

6) etc.

fuzzytank: 8th May 2005 - 22:22 GMT

so if its already in an article does that mean do not resubmit it? just nominizate?

Jamie: 1) Woah! 2) Awesome 3) Free copy? ;-)

elaine: and a party in new york?

elaine: 9th Jun 2005 - 19:09 GMT

so, this book...
will it be themed? i like the forensic poetry theme, and the garbage theme, and i like the urban wildlife theme frinstance

jeeff: 9th Jun 2005 - 19:47 GMT

i think this is a cool idea, but maybe better once the site reaches a more mature form. there's lots of good content here, but it hasn't quite fallen into shape yet, you know? a zine might be a good intermediate step.

also, i've wondered: why don't we do some kind of citynoise stickering campaign? we have a bunch of design- and visually-oriented people here who could surely come up with some good sticker designs. after that it's simply a matter of making them available on the site as clear high-quality images for download and print (either onto adhesive-backed paper or paste-ups using the wheatpasting tutorial. it would be great if the stickers were able to convey to the passer-by that the site is about celebrating your environment, rather than just another "cool website".

i think there is a nacent philosophy, too, which could be elaborated - in a sense, more like an exhibition catalogue, so that there are commentaries, but that could just be me being a bit high culture about it. do you rememberthe re:search series of publications? they were an interesting hybidised series of publications

Peter: 10th Jun 2005 - 13:51 GMT

i like the stickering idea jeeff... i actually did that some here in 2002, but the site was *so* new then that it didnt catch on much.

id be willing to try again. any design ideas/submissions would, as always, be aprpeciated.

Jamie: 10th Jun 2005 - 15:37 GMT

no, i've aften wondered where they went to. I still have some of those old stickers somewhere believe it or not. I might dig them out sometime

Jamie: 10th Jun 2005 - 15:38 GMT

p.s. do you remember crazy irish caroline? you know, the amputee?

Peter: 10th Jun 2005 - 15:53 GMT

she's my woman
she's my girl
i give her arms and legs a twirl

i love her much
as you can see
she's my little amputee
