Brooklyn Street Art Initiative... though I'm not certain why they spelled it "iniiatitive", I snapped this camphone shot when I passed this chalk drawing on Vanderbilt Avenue yesterday afternoon... This article has been viewed 15153 times in the last 4 years Stacey: 5th May 2005 - 18:04 GMTI saw this also but was rushing and didn't get a good look - if I had to guess it is "graffitish" in the style of letters - lots of old school graffiti artists use the copyrights symbol before their names. It will be interesting to see if this comes up again Jamie: 5th May 2005 - 19:22 GMTYeah but don't you think there is a special quality in art designed not to last. It has finite appreciability.
GGP: 19th May 2005 - 02:54 GMTthey're all over the place. infrastructural shadow puppetry. like the outlines of human objects left after a nuclear war. been enjoying the presence of these new pieces mucho. Ren: 19th May 2005 - 15:14 GMTAbout 2 months ago I came upon a trail of arrows that started on Henry St, and I followed it for abotu a mile to Carrol and 3rd. I stopped, but the arrows kept going. Later, I left my own trail of arrows. Now, this Ellis is doing street art. I am wondering if there is soemthing in the air or everyone has just started getting intellecutal and socially concious. Anyone else like "chalkificating"? ellis g.: 10th Oct 2005 - 19:26 GMTholler at yer boy! ellis g. art show! dj's kech rec,ixl and chappy! at KILI 81 HOYT ST. BET. Continues through 12/1/05 @ KILI Artist's Statement: ELLIS G.: 13th Nov 2005 - 07:29 GMTi am working on the website, as for now just google this: ellis g. chalk shadows. peace. facundo newbery: 11th Dec 2005 - 02:20 GMTellis is a fake . i've seen his paintings at the bar they are cheap quality and bad craftsman, also not a consistent body of work.very amateur. ELLIS G. 2007: 11th Dec 2005 - 20:43 GMTThe concept and practice of tracing shadows as an art form has existed for a very long time. (Do your research, it originated in France). Any attempts to take credit for the idea of tracing shadows would be as futile as trying to take credit for the idea of painting a portrait or photographing a landscape. Many people have these ideas, but it is the artist that makes them different, interesting and unique. I have read that you believe that I have copied your work, although I have never heard of you, nor seen your work before checking out your link after seeing your post. It is not my practice to badmouth any artist. it is important that we offer one another critiques or opinions, but to bash something and someone you seem to know very little about leaves the impression of insecurity. My current work was born out of something very real to me and I enjoy what I do and sharing it with others. In short, tracing shadows is not your original idea, nor is it mine- actually, I have learned that ZEVS (a parisian graffiti artist who works with space invader) has been doing it long before me and I assume, before you. He has his way of doing it, which I respect and admire. I have my way. And I guess, you have yours. In the future, I suggest that you take the time to brush up on the real origins of this art form, before you make claims of ownership. Thank you very much. Have a nice day. makr1: 11th Dec 2005 - 21:04 GMTthen why do you take credit? youre nothing but a skill-less hypocrite. i saw your "art" in prospect heights.... it sucks ass. for all the shit talking and posturing you do, i expected far more. plus, all your antics here and on dailyheights.com show me that youre just a sophomoric assface. so fuck off, ellisg. surely, by now, you can see that no one likes you. next time i pass some of your "work", im gonna piss on it. makr1: 11th Dec 2005 - 21:06 GMTand by your "art", i mean your canvasses, "netone". ima cross out all your tags too, then turn you in to the nypd graffiti tastforce. what do you think about that, son? static: 11th Dec 2005 - 21:12 GMTEllis G sucks. someone really needs to give his ass a beatdown for being such a lamer. sparks: 7th Jan 2006 - 03:34 GMTWhy so hateful? And what is not to appreciate? Do you honestly mean that you can look at a shadow today and not see it from a different perspective than you had before Ellis' 'art' started appearing? Not to mention the universality of the project: In a city with so many people, each with his own agenda, etc., you don't stop to think who else may have stood exactly where you are standing at some given moment? It's pretty incredible, if you let you mind wander. Unrealistic though it may be, just think if we all left our mark on our daily paths... Ellis' art is just enough to make you stop and think- about whatever, wherever, for at least a moment. Love it or hate it, you've thought about it. Get over yourself and bitch about something worthwhile. Peter: 7th Jan 2006 - 07:18 GMThi ellis. its funny when you talk about yourself in the third person. lolz. ELLIS G.2009: 19th Jan 2006 - 15:44 GMTPlease be civil. Personal attacks, abusive or libelous comments will be deleted. Peter: 19th Jan 2006 - 18:24 GMTyes, and most likely by me. so keep spamming here, and ill keep deleting your repeat comment floods. Peter: 20th Jan 2006 - 14:53 GMTyeah... spamming. like back when you posted the same comment on here like 50 times in many different entries (and i had to fix it) and when you did the same on the www.dailyheights.com snifferboy: 11th Feb 2006 - 15:29 GMTwhen i was a kid, i saw a tv program talking about these mysterious, human-like shadows in doorways and walls. Where does that fit in and where can i hear more?
