A camphone snapshot of the "NO PARKING: LOADING ZONE" area in front of my office.
I took these photos while out front, waiting out a fire-drill we had this morning. This article has been viewed 2301 times in the last 3 years elaine: 4th May 2005 - 17:46 GMTnow, see, i like these, and to me this is as good as a lomo. should i be shot? Peter: 4th May 2005 - 17:55 GMTwell, the lomo is much higher res than my cameraphone, as it takes actual 35mm film and has a glass lens and stuff... but yeah, the color saturation is very similar! elaine: 4th May 2005 - 18:09 GMTnowadays it completely depends on what your end output is going to be. onscreen 72dpi still or moving image gives a lorra lorra scope for the inputs. i was discussing about putting 'eye of the storm' onto canvas with a geezer and suddenly how big it could get became an issue again for the first time in a long while. i have many reasons why, but big format is not always big deal Paul G: 5th May 2005 - 04:43 GMTi like the abstract quality of your low-res images. all hyper-realism, all the time, can be fatiguing. smudgy, inky, rough gestures are fun in painting and photography: freeing, in a way... Peter: 5th May 2005 - 14:18 GMTme too. ive been enjoying using the low-res camphone a bit as opposed to the usual digicam... a new way of looking at things. i am very limited with my palate and depth and detail with this device, so i have to think alot more about capturing something, and how to get close enough (as well as getting the right light) to even make a photo worth seeing. i feel like the modern, digital equivalent of those photographers that came before, lugging glass plates, chemicals and phosphor flashes. just more portable and conceniently easy to use. same visual/quality challenges though. in the comment thread accompanying this entry, i explain the cam im using, as well as some hacks ive installed to allow more control over saturation/exposure and zoom. its fun. kobe: 5th May 2005 - 16:08 GMTi like that "zone" photo. how do you make links in comments? use the same commands as in making a post? elaine: 5th May 2005 - 19:27 GMTwell, that's what i meant before about it being like pinhole - the restrictions make you have to think about things in a different way than if you have loads of tech spec Jamie: 5th May 2005 - 19:46 GMTThe lack of detail and having to get up close is something i remember from a few years back when i used to carry around a cheap mini toy digicam around with me wherever i went. Most of my photographic record of that time is in extreme closeup. It was the only way of capturing any detail at such low resolutions. I had big problems with the colour balancing on that thing so i eventually began just greyscaling and contrast adjusting all the shots to my liking. There are a bunch of them on here if you care to dig through my old posts citynoise.org/author/jamie Jamie: 5th May 2005 - 19:58 GMTI was eventually frustrated into buying a Blink. It held around 100 VGA shots though it had poor resonse times by which i mean the period in between clicking the button and the camera actually taking the photo. I put this down to the real time jpeg compression. Any lateral movement would lead to bizarre warping and furthermore it blurred towards the corners. I took not many photos with this though did get some quite good results considering its flaws. There are a few of Moynalty which demonstrate its ability. These days i use my Nokia 6230 mobile phone to take off the cuff photos, though i'm making a conscious effort to carry my real camera with me whenever i can.
