hasslehoff: 4th May 2005 - 16:23 GMT

what a fabolously colourful introspection into your world peter. it inspires me to do the same.

Peter: 4th May 2005 - 16:25 GMT

you should. i would love to see what surrounds you, you know, the everyday life stuff.

hasslehoff: 4th May 2005 - 16:27 GMT

The muffin shop kicks ass. And that barbershop is where reporters always go to interview NYC Haitians on political happenings back home. Those guys do nothing but debate politics all day.

Peter: 5th May 2005 - 14:21 GMT

the barber shop crew smokes alot of cigars, too. im not sure what theyre called, but you know the ones you get in a little pack that have the wooden mouthpieces?

Stacey: 5th May 2005 - 21:07 GMT

I love this site - found it through Daily Heights.
These pictures are awesome and show Underhill beutifully (I live there also). I have a question for you Peter - you focus alot on tags are you or were you a graffiti artist?

kobe: 6th May 2005 - 06:04 GMT

hahaha a graf writer. i bet he knows a thing or two......

Peter: 6th May 2005 - 14:40 GMT

stacey: i suppose one could say that graf is a major point of interest for me, yes

Stacey: 6th May 2005 - 15:37 GMT

I was too long, long time ago. Still has a special place in my heart. :) Keep up the great work

Stacey: 6th May 2005 - 17:49 GMT

Also have you seen 5 pointz in Queens. Some beautiful pieces there.

Peter: 6th May 2005 - 18:18 GMT

nope... unfortunately, my experiences with are limited to the , , / and the isamu noguchi sculpture garden... whats 5-points? i know about 5-points in ATL, but not nyc... fill me in, yo :)

Stacey: 6th May 2005 - 18:53 GMT

Its on Jackson Ave and Crane Street - PS 1 you can see it as you ride the elevated 7 train its a warehouse/studio called 5 Pointz - Institute of Higher Burning. I have gone to some of their "old school" venues - (I rather consider myself a vintage writer). Its is one of the most beautifully changing works of art you can ever see. Check it out yourself www.5ptz.com.

Peter: 6th May 2005 - 18:58 GMT

ahh, that place! i never knew it had a name. i know what youre talking about now... i should go there in person, though... ive just seen it online.

Most of us were born between Atlantic and Pacific. But I was born between Atlantic and Pacific but on Underhill Ave. The walk up Underhill to Eastern Parkway to go to the Museum, or Botanic Gardens, the Library, or Prospect Park was made very often. On the way we passed the playground on St. Marks where we might see quite a few handball games.

My buddies lived on Pacific Street, Dean Street and Underhill Avenue. We all moved away eventually but somehow managed to meet back at the Knights of Columbus on Grand Army plaza where we worked out, bowled or played pool. We think of ourselves as the boys of summer.

Victor: 10th May 2005 - 00:02 GMT

'Twas nice to hear from my younger buddy with whom I'd shared many of these sights 50-60 years ago. Strangely enough I very recently took my foreign born wife for a tour through the neighborhood. I had gone there with a view to possibly taking her on a bike ride from Grand Army Plaza to Coney Island this year but can't recall how we used to access the bike path through Prospect Pk. Any info?

Peter: 10th May 2005 - 13:44 GMT

Yep, you can enter through and ride around to the other side, the corner at the southeastish side of the park, and catch , where there is a great that goes all the way out to surf avenue on , and isnt interrupted by traffic. its a nice ride!

theres a good bike-path map here:

One of seven brothers & sisters all born and raised during and after the depression years on Main Street, downtown Brooklyn which at that time ran beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. It was bordered between Fulton, Prospect, Adam and Front Streets.Construction of the Bklyn Queens Expressway in the early 1940's literally destroyed our homes, demolished neighborhoods uprooting close friends, neighbors and cherished life long acquaintances forever. What remains thru the years are the fond-unforgetable, nostalgic childhood memories of the era and good moments we enjoyed with our families, friends and neighbors while growing up which time can never replace.

ROBERT: PETER, PLEASE KEEP ON WITH YOUR GOOD WORK...

Morgan: 13th Dec 2005 - 17:51 GMT

I just got an apartment in Prospect Heights on St. Johns Place. Can anyone give me any info about that part of town?

Peter: 13th Dec 2005 - 18:30 GMT

morgan: check out the blog at www.dailyheights.com and the neighborhood forum at dailyheights.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=2 theyre both very useful, especially if youre moving to the neighborhood... so much info and community.

Morgan: thank you....new yorkers are so nice

Peter: we try :)

Morgan: when they're not spitting on you :)
