time was, when i ran a car that this was all very easy. now it's a job and a half, but my compusion to gain access to this beach is so strong, and my friend jenny is so intrepid, that we have done this trip twice, now. first time in january, and then a couple of weeks ago. i will not bore you with endless pictures of this beach, because no matter how many pictures i took, nor how good a photographer i took with me to the beach, that would not be the point. i have been on this beach in all weathers, all times of year, and one day here is worth a fortnight anywhere. sometimes newspapers and magazines do features where it is picked as one of the top ten beaches in the world, and i panic in case too many people come here, but it is almost impossible for it to be ruined. it is massive, it is land managed so there are no ameneties, you can bring dogs and horses, but there are no toilets or anything for miles, and all the amusement arcades and so on are well catered for elsewhere. this is for toffs and nature lovers, and long may it remain so

We used to ride our bikes at great speed along the seafront from heacham, where our grandparents owened a static caravan on one of the many grotty caravan parks. It was called something ironic like paradise beach or something. I don't think they allow cycling on the promenade anymore. Something about health and saftety. elaine: 4th May 2005 - 12:45 GMTyou can go for miles, as long as you don't mind if you don't come back..is the only thing, it's a very scant service. i first went to holkham because my ex, j remembered it from his childhood holidays. we stayed in b&b at welles next the sea where i played my first shoot em up video game, and killed all my friends as well as my enemies, and we ate fantastic seafood. after we split up i kept going back Peter: 4th May 2005 - 13:13 GMTyay beaches... i really wanna go to the shore this summer, like every weekend! Diane: 4th Oct 2005 - 16:15 GMTGoing for the first time this weekend for my 50th birthday - can't wait! (though I'd sooner forget about the advancing years) Goodbye land-locked Leicester. elaine: 4th Oct 2005 - 16:37 GMTdiane, you will love it. a day on that beach is worth a fortnight anywhere else, and i have been there in all weathers, and it is just as beautiful. my advice? take or buy wellies jean: 13th Nov 2005 - 19:05 GMTi live in Wells-next-the-Sea and i go to Holkam Beach with Frances and Angel nearly every day. It is different every time. The big sky and the light are the best in england. Go on Wells-next-the-Sea website and book yourself a winter break now Peter: 17th Apr 2008 - 01:17 GMTi never made it to the shore in summer 05. come to think of it, i havent been down the shore since, shit, 2001? wow. thats the jersey shore Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
