Under the Freeway
Browsing articles by Moebiusrex - [previous] :: [next]under the freeway, alongside the tracks: san francisco
it was freezing under there, in the shadow of the I-280 North overpass. despite the sun & blue skies, the wind blew hard & cold along the train tracks. i heard a noise & turned. three young guys in hoodies were coming in to the underneath from seventh street--& one of them was heading straight for me. he said something, but a semi passing overhead drowned him out. he said it again. "do you write?" a look of complete incomprehension must have crossed my face. "do you paint," he clarified, with a hint of exasperation. "uh, no. i'm just taking pictures...." the youth gestured up the tracks, to a spot away from the view of surface roads, where the tracks met a hill and continued on through a tunnel. "there's a lot of cool shit up there. go check it out. you'll like it." "thanks," i replied. i trudged along the tracks towards this supposed treasure trove of grafitti art, knowing that he was really just trying to ensure that i wouldn't follow his crew to their painting site. but i wasn't upset for long, because he didn't lie. there were wonderous works & spellbinding sights ahead, under the overpass, hidden away where only the CalTrain commuters & homeless wanderers would see them.
